William (Bill) Vollendorf passed away on December 5, 2016 in Walla Walla WA.  I attempted to go to the memorial service but due to weather did not make it all the way.  I have not been to print the full obituary on line.  A memorial servive was held and currently burial is planned for February on his birthday.

         Inline image 1 William C. “Bill” Vollendorff, Jr. was born on Feb. 11, 1945, in Montgomery, Ala., to William C. Vollendorff, Sr. and Catherine Frances Furlong. He passed away on Dec. 5, 2016. Bill will be remembered for his kindness, helpfulness, and humor.

           Bill’s mother died when he was born. Until the age of five, Bill resided with his paternal grandparents Charles F. H. and Sallie Marie Vollendorff, of Walla Walla, from whom he learned his gentlemanly manners and his sense of humor. His father married Lenora Nelson in 1949, and the family expanded by four sisters in subsequent years. Bill later moved to Spokane, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1963. He married Maureen Stewart in 1970.

          Bill graduated from Walla Walla College in 1974 with a major in speech communication and minors in history and theater. He pursued these interests throughout the rest of his life. He worked as a radio announcer and disk jockey, became an expert on military and Walla Walla history, and was active in community theater, particularly the Little Theatre of Walla Walla.

Professionally, Bill began as a real estate agent, then worked at the county assessor’s office for 6 years, after which he ran his own residential appraisal firm for 22 years. He was elected Walla Walla County Assessor in 2004, serving until his retirement in 2010. He was a member and volunteer at Fort Walla Walla Museum and supporter of the Waitsburg Historical Society as well as the Elks Lodge and Kiwanis Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his stepmother.  He is survived by his wife; stepdaughter Nichole (Delbert) Dulley; sisters Roberta Vollendorff, Valerie (Daniel) Baffney, Theresa (James) Ebding, and Chandra (Eric) Anderson; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family wishes to specially thank the “village” that helped prolong his life, including doctors Joseph Meyer, Joanne Perez, and Jennifer Leach; caregiver Jeri Neely; and Liberty Medical Transport.

Contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to Fort Walla Walla Museum, the Walla Walla Catholic Schools Booster Club for Ty Baffney Field, or a charity of the donor’s choice. A come-and-go celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the clubhouse at Wildwood Village, 601 Village Way. Burial will be at a later date.
