Val Sherlock (Goebell)

Val Sherlock (Goebell)

Valerie Kay Sherlock Goebel passed away on January 22, 2025 at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was born on April 5, 1956 in Spokane, Washington, the daughter of June and Dominick Sherlock.

She attended St. Augustine Elementary School and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1974. She studied at Washington State University before settling at Glen Dow Academy in Spokane and began her true passion of hair design. Her son Robert Selland was born in 1980, and she married Ed Goebel in 1988.

A very talented hair stylist, Valerie worked for many years in this profession.  She worked at Jack and Jill Hair Design and 30th Off Grand before opening her own salon in the Flour Mill called Shear-Locks. She would eventually bring her talents and clients home as she opened a small salon at her residence. Valerie loved all her clients, and many became lifelong friends.

Valerie loved to travel – especially to warm locations! Val and Ed spent happy times in Mexico, Hawaii, Arizona, and the Caribbean. They enjoyed exploring new places and making new friends wherever they went. A very special trip was a Mediterranean cruise with her sister-in-law and brother-in-law to see the sights of Rome, Venice, Barcelona, France, and Monaco.

She loved spending time at Newman Lake with family and friends, spending endless hours water skiing and boating on the lake. She enjoyed snow skiing as well and took memorable trips with Ed and Robert to the slopes in British Columbia and the closer mountains of 49° North and Mount Spokane.

Valerie touched many lives with her talents and kindness and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Valerie was preceded in death by her father Dominick, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Sylvia and Alois Goebel, brother-in-law Victor Goebel and sister-in-law Maria Goebel.

She is survived by her loving husband Ed, her son Robert (Jenny) Selland, mother June, brothers Dominick (Kristi), Patrick (Andrea), Stephen, and sisters Melanie (Erick) and Michael Ann (Jeff,) brothers-in-law Don (Helen) and Gary and sister-in-law Kathy (Rick), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
