Dear Classmate friends,

Hi and I hope that all is well with all of you and your families.

As many of you know, I had been diagnosed with dementia, in addition to my having a slew of other difficult health issues including being on a feeding tube for about 4 years now (subsequent complications from cervical neck surgery). My health issues are why I unfortunately unable to attend the last several class reunions.

Back in 2012, I was selected to serve on the National Alzheimer's Association Early-Stage Advisory Group, of which I am now an alumnus of that group. The role of the Early-Stage Advisory Group is to raise awareness about early-stage issues, act as a spokesperson for national media opportunities, advocate to increase funding for research, and support the Association in providing the most appropriate services for people living with Alzheimer's. I had also been active locally, in the State of Florida and nationally with regards to Alzheimer's and other dementia advocacy, programs and initiatives for care. I have had to stop my helping with dementia advocacy with my declining short and long term memory and other medical = health issues.

Yes, I continue to have huge health challenges, but I do my best to live in the gift of the present moments...

My wife Gail and I celebrated our 48th anniversary this past March.

PS = Several years ago (up till about 2015), CNN (Dr. Sanjay Gupta and team) had been following me and my family with regards to my having dementia. There is a written portion to what they have called "Sandy's Story" and 7 video segments = much of which had been filmed... the most recent segment is the last segment (at my daughter Laurie's wedding). Here is a link to the written segment and the 7 video segments that are online and many of which were on CNN TV... Understand that the last CNN segment was filmed in 2015 at the wedding.

Still have lots of great memories of those years with y'all... including our trips down the street to Friendly's! I miss their Awful Awful's and those Big Beef Cheeseburgers with extra pickles...

Walking the school hallways, etc during classes = using passes that I forged! Don't tell anyone...
