Not ready for that...
Geez, where to begin? After barely graduating in 1989, I focused on finishing my training as an Army medic, and once that was over I focused on partying with my buddies for a time. Inspired by my military experiences to do something in health care, I finally went back to school in 1991 and entered field of nursing where I have been since. I most recently worked in intensive care and in surgery over the past 6 years before starting grad school. I was first married from 1992-2000, had no children, and was subsequently divorced in 2000. I re-married later in 2000 and have been with my wife, Tamara, for over 10 years now. We have both been academic late bloomers: she (Pleasant H.S. Marion, OH class of 1990) is just 5 semester hours from graduating from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah and I just recently graduated from the Master of Science in Nursing--Nurse Anesthesia program at the University of Cincinnati--I guess maybe playing the age card can help one edge out the field when applying to otherwise competitive academic programs (LMAO)--who knows? We are just glad to be fast on the way to bigger and better things. I have also been in the Army Reserves for over 23 years now--I was enlisted for about 15 of those and have spent the rest as an officer (currently a Captain). One of my best friends (Vance Switzer) and I were lucky enough to be deployed together for most of 2003. I have two children so far: Maya--my 5-yr. old daughter, and Rowan--my 2-year-old son (yeah, I got a late start on that too).
I stayed in Ohio (Fairborn and Springfield) until 2002 (though I had threatened to leave many times prior to that, however, encumbered by an unexplainable reluctance to part with the swarms of bugs, stifling humidity, and relative lack of topography here--I stayed for reasons that remain enigmatic to me). After several road trip vacations helped me sort out that I really needed to cut the cord with the Midwest, I let go of my inhibitions, "popped smoke," and emigrated westward. I lived in Pocatello, Idaho from 2002 (minus my deployment) until 2006 and in Salt Lake City, UT (beautiful scenery, great snow, but oh what an ODD place to live...I 'll just call it "culturally challenging" and leave it at that) 2006-2008 until I moved to Cincinnati in Aug. 2008 to attend grad school at UC. At first, it was strange coming back to Ohio, but it has been nice to be near the support of our extended family and especially to share our children with them (plus UC's Nurse Anesthetist program is perennially ranked 10th-11th out of over 100 such programs in the U.S--it was a no-brainer when that acceptance letter came--it was my #1 choice for many reasons though I have no idea how I made the cut).
I love anesthesia and I know I am really going to really dig my job (plus I am pretty sure it is going to pay the bills even if my beloved spouse decides to go work for GreenPeace, the Sierra Club, or "Save the Prairie Dogs" for like $10K/yr. or something after she takes the bar exam).
We recently decided to stay in Ohio for at least 2-4 years to remain closer to our extended family and will be relocating to the Dayton area (Springboro, Centerville, or Beavercreek) this summer. I will be working in Dayton at Good Samaritan Hospital. We loved the geographic landscapes out West, but the people landscape is much more hospitable in good old Ohio. I am sure to be deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, or who knows where in the coming months and I will feel much better knowing my family is near the people they know and love.
Sorry I could not make it to our/your reunion(s), but I was swamped with academic responsibilities and clinical/call/rotation obligations. Now that I will be closer to many of you for some time to come, I hope to see some of you.
I have fond memories of playing in bands with Sam Rizzotte, Mark Hamilton, David Johnson, Matt Peters, Eric Wagner, Sam Martineau, and company. I spent a great deal of time out of school engaged in my own ummmm...extra-curricular activities, but it seemed to me that you guys were having alot of fun whenever I popped in to visit. I also remember trading verbal blows with people in the form of various quotes written on the chalkboard in Mr. Arnold's room--it was a great forum; to this day I still love to collect verbal gems for my intellectual cache...strangley, I sometimes find myself thinking of the all of the artwork above the lockers in the hallway (Jim Morrison--"the future is uncertain and the end is always near"--that's the one that sticks out in my mind). Funny what you remember, eh?
Excited to start the rest of your life
I talk to Vance Switzer, Brian Hroch, Mark Holmes, and Russ Clonch on a regular basis
None that were sanctioned...
German Club, the rest is a blurr...
Never having to go back...

Anywhere there are mountains or oceans
Hobbies: I developed a serious addiction to whitewater kayaking in my mid-late 20's and have paddled well into the thousands of miles of class III, IV, & V whitewater in OH (yeah, believe it or not, we have class III+ in Ohio when it floods in the right places), WV, MD, PA, TN, GA, ID, WY, and CO (although I have had to back off for the last couple of years while we concentrate on caring for small children and juggling the rigors of our academic obligations). I guess I like most anything outdoors including: rock climbing (Tamara and I climbed Devil's Tower in WY for our first anniversary), snowboarding, camping, hiking, etc. We lived only about 2 hrs. from Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat'l parks when we were in ID and we really developed a love for the Mountain West (and a healthy respect for moose, bison, bears, wolves, mountain lions, and other creatures that can eat you and/or stomp your guts out when you are out and about playing on their turf). Who needs ENEMIES when you have FRIENDS with pepper spray? (there is a story that goes with that, but it is embarrassing to yours truly and can wait until we are out drinking or something). All things considered, I think that so far Boise, ID might be the hottest blip on my radar after I graduate--it seems like the best place to be near all of the things I that I love to do.
I love being a dad and cannot wait to have more time for my little monsters when school is over (getting back to kayaking will be fun too).
I am an atheist, but that may not be very surprising.
I am pretty far LEFT on most issues...

Proudest Moments: 1)The births of my children. 2)Finding the girl of my dreams who somehow simultaneously keeps me in line while inspiring me to be all that I can without sacrificing who I am. 3)Graduating from Idaho State University with a 3.87 cumulative GPA at age 35 as a full-time student, while working full-time in the O.R., responding to emergency call in the O.R. several times a month, being second in command of a Reserve unit of about 200 soldiers--all with a pregnant wife and/or new baby in the house the entire time. 4)Making the cut after the interview for my grad school major at UC. 5) Surviving my first class V kayak run down the Upper Gauley River in WV in 1999.
Low Points: 1)I sadly miss my best buddies Matt Peters and Todd Ferguson. Delivering the eulogy at Matt's funeral and helping his mom make his funeral arrangements in May, 1994 were easily the hardest things I have ever had to do. My son was born just two days before Todd's death in April, 2008 and it really made for a weird time grieving over my friend while simultaneously trying to absorb the joy of having my firstborn son--I am sorry I was not able to make it to the funeral. 2)Enduring two terms of "W"--SO GLAD to move on from that one.
