  CHESTER - John A. Cannistraci, 59, died suddenly Sunday morning (May 7, 2000) upon arrival at Springfield Hospital.

  He was born Jan. 27, 1941, in  Staten Island, N.Y., son of Anthony and Ingebjorg (Repstad) Cannistraci.

  He attended schools in New York and Springfield, and made his home in the Springfield and Chester areas for most of his life.

  On Jan. 12, 1958, he married Rebecca Ross in Springfield.

  For many years, he worked as a barber and had owned and operated several barber shops in this area, and throughout New England. For the past seven years, he has served as the site manager for the Pleasant Brook Apartments in Chester.


  He was a passionate cellist and guitarist, playing in several churches throughout New England.


  Survivors include his wife of Chester; four sons, Mark A. Cannistraci of Brattleboro, Vt., Paul J. Cannistraci of Troy, N.H., Peter A. Cannistraci of Charlestown, and David S. Cannistraci of Windsor; two daughters, Rebecca Saypack of Springfield and Naomi N. Cannistraci of Keene, N.H.; 17 grandchildren; four brothers, Anthony Cannistraci of  Bennington, Vt., Joseph Cannistraci of Cranston, R.I., Rev. Philip Cannistraci of Putnam, Conn., and Luke Cannistraci of  Portsmouth, R.I, one sister, Nella Williams of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.

  Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service tomorrow.

  A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, with his brother, the Rev. Philip Cannistraci, officiating.

  Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.

  Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer St., Springfield.
