David E. LaPlante Sr., 83, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at his home with his wife by his side.

He was born Springfield, VT on December 24, 1939 to the late Joseph and Mattie (Blodgett) LaPlante. He attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1958.

He served in the United States Army just after the Korean War.

He married Gladys Fleming on November 3, 1970.

David had many professions throughout his life including: projectionist at the Avon Movie theatre in Springfield, state fire marshal from 1989- 2006, deputy sheriff for the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, police officer in Springfield for 10 years and master electrician in Vermont and New Hampshire.

David is survived by his wife Gladys LaPlante; his four children, David Jr, Ronald Alan and Diane LaPlante; three step-children, Mark, Stuart and Michael Sweetser; five grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter and his brother William LaPlante.

He was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings.

A graveside service will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in North Springfield in the spring.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
