Barbara Ptasnik (Fersing)

December 24, 1940 - January 9, 2010

BARBARA (PTASNIK) FERSING GRAND ISLE - Barbara (Ptasnik) Fersing, 69, of Grand Isle, died in the arms of her family at her home, Jan. 9, 2010. She was born in Springfield,Vt., the daughter of Waseil and Irene (Abrahamovich) Ptasnik.

She Graduated from Springfield High School and received an associate degree from Becker Jr. College in Worcester, Mass. Upon graduation Barbara took employment at Mary Hitchcock hospital in Dartmouth, New Hampshire.

She married Sten Fersing in 1961, and they moved to Montreal where she worked for a pharmaceutical firm while supporting her husband through McGill Dental school. She moved to Colchester in 1967, becoming an active homemaker and community volunteer.

She enjoyed following and participating in her children's and later her grandchildren's many activities. Barbara loved travel, enjoying many trips throughout her lifetime with her husband, family and friends. She was a canoe-camper, a skier and an avid golfer, but most especially enjoyed being at her home in Grand Isle with family and friends.

Barb is survived by Sten, her husband of 49 years; her son Derek and his wife Helen and their children Nicole and Liam; her daughter Kirsten Fitzgerald and her husband David and their children Davin, Ryan and Aiden; and her son Kyle and his wife Tammy and their children Avery, Hayden and Annika. She is also survived by her special Niece Erika (Kneeland) Gutermuth and husband Bob of Leominster Mass. Barbara was predeceased by her sister Patricia (Ptasnik) Kneeland and her parents Waseil and Irene (Abrahamovich) Ptasnik.

A celebration of Barbara's life will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church 1063 Prim Road, Colchester, VT. A brief visitation time will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m.

Ever since a neighbor got a late 50s Golden Hawk Studebaker about a year ago I've thought of Barbara whenever I've seen it. I have very vivid recollections of seeing her zip up Summer Hill in her parent's Silver Hawk.
