Alaska-Catherine Capen Will, 66, of Alaska, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at the Westley Nursing Home in Alaska, after a battle with illness. Catherine spent her years growing up in Springfield and in 1960 graduated from Springfield High School. She attended the University of Vermont for a year. Catherine lived in Albuquerque, N.M, for a number of years, and then moved to Alaska, where she worked at the Providence Hospital as a medical secretary for fifteen years. When she was 62, she retired after working at several other jobs in Alaska. Catherine loved to read, sing and learn as much as she could. She was working on her Master's degree when she became ill. SPRINGFIELD - Catherine Capen Will, 66, formerly of Springfield, died Sept. 20 2008 at Wesley Nursing Home in Alaska after a long illness.

She was born in Springfield on June 10, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Berniece Willette Capen.

She graduated from Springfield High School in 1960, attended UVM for a year then joined the Army where she served three years as a nurse.  She was working on her master's degree when she became ill.

In Alaska, she worked at Providence Hospital as a medical secretary for 15 years and several other jobs in Alaska until she retired at 62.

She enjoyed reading, singing and learning.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Ralph Farnsworth of Springfield; two brothers Charles Capen of Springfield and Bill Capen of Nashua, NH; an uncle, an aunt, three nieces, a grandnephew and many cousins.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Pleasant Street with the Rev. Peter Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sprongfield Humane Society, Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156.

I know I always enjoyed listening to Cathy sing. Now she sings with the angels. She will be missed.
