Dave Sprague was probably my second friend that I met after Dick Carlisle. The three of us attended Mrs. Hogue's Kindergarden class above the wooden stairs on Mt. Vernon St where Dick and I lived. Dave came over from Foster Ave off Park St. I cannot think of the street name, however, it was off Union Street near where Mr. Rose subsequently lived. Dave used to regale all of us and our parents with Piano selections at Union St School functions. Dave and I were at the same school for the entire 12 years, along with a few others;- Jeanne Ann Moulton, Linda Bell, Stuart Johnston and others. Dave had a great baseball glove that I remember to this day;- a blonde leather Earl Torgeson first basemans model. We played many baseball games at my home as part of the Craigue Hill Rumblers. A pet peeve of mine with Dave was his tendency to visit me, pick up a book and get lost in it and there went the afternoons play. Daves house had cable TV and I first saw Johnny Carson there, say, in about 1962. His mother Esther would rave about "this new comedian". I will tell you all that nobody was a greater fan of the 1960 State Basketball Championship team than Dave. I believe our yearbook (mine has been lost) has a picture of Dave in his brown leather coat leading the charge out of the stands. Dave visited me once at the Jersey shore in say, July,1968 and was a big hit with all the girls. I think I was glad when he returned to Vermont. I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend David Sprague.Curtis Blake
Dave was a good friend and I will always remember the fun we had together in sports, poker and just good times. He was in our wedding party and sent roses to Peggy on our anniversary for a number of years.
His yearbook picture states, "I never think of the future, it comes soon enough." How true, how true!!
You are missed!!
