
SPRINGFIELD — Wayne E. Griffin, 75, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 24, 2014, at Springfield Hospital, following a long illness. He was born May 10, 1939, in Woodsville, New Hampshire, the son of Harry and Esther (Copp) Griffin. He attended Springfield schools and graduated from Springfield High School Class of 1957.
On May 2, 1958, he married Patricia Sullivan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield.
Mr. Griffin was an assistant manager with the First National Grocery Store for many years, was employed as plant manager for Coughlin Electric, owned and operated Chester Food Market in Chester for many years and worked in security for Ben & Jerry’s.
He was a member of the Vermont National Guard 131st Engineering Unit in North Springfield.
He was an avid hunter and had taken several trophy bucks over the years. He enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing.
Mr. Griffin served on the budget advisory committee for the town of Springfield, and served many years on the zoning board for the town of Springfield.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Griffin; one son, Wayne T. Griffin of Windsor; two daughters, Karen Johnston and her husband, Douglas, of Springfield and Lisa Allen and her husband, John, also of Springfield; six grandchildren, Amanda Griffin, Eric Griffin, Christine Desjardins, Micheal Hannan, Julie Hannan and Lindsay Turgeon; two great-grandchildren, Camden and Maddison Desjardins; one brother, Glendon Griffin; one sister, Joyce Olmstead; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Davis Memorial Chapel.
