Stephanie was one of my closest friends in Junior High. She and I used to work in the Library together, I don't even remember how we got to do that? Did we avoid a study hall or something? We spent hours together cataloging books, checking books in and out and chatting with each other. That was so much better than a study hall!

Anyway, one of the things I will never forget is going to Synagogue with her family and one year, getting to enjoy the Passover Sedar with her family. It was so nice of their family to welcome me into theirs to learn about all the Jewish traditions that I did not learn from the "Jewish half" of my family. Since this is about Stephanie, I won't explain that, but suffice it to say that she and her family filled in the voids of history and tradition that I otherwise would never have learned. My favorite Synagogue memory, which I have never forgotten was helping get ready for the Purim Festival!

I am not sure why I lost contact with such a good friend. I was much saddened to learn of her passing.

I was reading through my yearbook "signatures" after the reunion and came across what Stephanie wrote in my 7th & 8th grade yearbooks (Kevin Levin still has my 9th grade book he borrowed for planning the reunion, so I can't reveal that entry). But these two entries show the blooming friendship that Stephanie and I had...and what I was hoping to rekindle when seeing her again at one of our reunions.

Since that cannot happen now, I want to share with you a piece of the friendship she and I shared...

7th Grade Entry:
We've been through many things this year: quarrels, jibbers, fights and all that, but still remained friends. Unbelievable, huh!

8th Grade Entry:
Dear Linda,
A lot has gone on over the past year which I'll never forget. It was great sharing a locker with you, although I must admit, getting the lock ripped off 2 days in a row was not my idea of fun. Having the same schedule was pretty convenient, and media was fun too. Staying after school, even coming in on snow days! I hope we get to share editorship of the yearbook next year. You've taught me a great deal of things this year, and you've been very understanding of my problems (sic-I don't remember what those were, but suffice it to say, we WERE in Jr High, right?). I feel like a living part of the library by now. Maybe next year we can swing it to get out of advisory or something for some occasional working hours. I hope you continue to be a good friend of mine, and I'll see you over the summer!

Love, Stephanie Myers

That basically tells the story....our friendship was lost some time after 9th grade, the tumult of high school separated us from each other. I really am unsure of what caused it, but I was truly looking forward to meeting up with Stephanie at a HS reunion sometime. East's 30th was the first I have attended. I missed her greatly and I am comforted in the knowledge that I WILL see her again. I just have to wait longer than I'd like!
