THOMAS MIEGER OBITUARY

Thomas Vernon Mieger was born on February 27, 1943 in St. Louis to Helen and Albert Mieger. He was raised in an inner city German neighborhood. He was a rambunctious boy whose mom would find him blocks away from home engaged in any and all pick up games as early as age 4. He loved bikes and worked a paper route, saving every penny to purchase his first Schwinn and subsequent freedom. He rode his bike around St. Louis, on dates, and even over the bridge to Illinois 'just because'. Tom graduated St. Mary's High School in 1961 and there excelled at all sports including basketball, football, track and soccer. Following high school he played semi-professional soccer, and in his late 40s, Tom rekindled his love for cycling, often riding long distances with like minded athletes who became his best friends. He was a gifted athlete with an extraordinary drive to push himself.

Professionally Tom excelled in sales and was skillful at forging long term relationships with buyers. He started his career as a leather buyer with the International Shoe Company and then sold baby shoes with Trimfoot Company for 42 years.

He was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and fought for 7 years with the same ferocious tenacity and humor that he approached all challenges. He passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Carol, son Tom Mieger and spouse Jodi Mieger, daughter Amy Journo and spouse Shay Journo, grandchildren Aiden Mieger, Hudson Mieger, Benjamin Journo, Noah Journo. Step grandchildren: Blake and Reese Littleton. He is survived by brother Al Mieger of St. Louis and sister in law Mary Ann Zipprich of Albuquerque. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ann Marie Getchman and brother in law Joseph Krivi.

Tom was part of the Willed Body Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
