Walter Notheis

Walter Notheis

Murdered in December, 1983, by his wife's boyfriend. His body was not discovered until April, 1987, when it was found in a cistern at the home of his widow's new husband, James Williams. Subsequently Williams was found guilty of two counts of capital murder in the deaths of his previous wife and Wally. He was sentenced to two life terms without parole, and Wally's widow got five years for hindering the prosecution.

Sir Walter Scott was his stage name when he sang for Bob Kuban and the In-Men and singing is what he always loved.  I don't think he was ever formally trained but he sang at every opportunity.  This included in the showers after football practice, gym class, at recess or in a talent show.

I had an instant connection with Wally Notheis.  We played football together, went to dances and just enjoyed hanging out.  However, I could not carry a tune but Wally talked me into doing backup with Buddy Dausch in our sophomore year to my embarrassment.

It took awhile but the St. Louis police solved Wally's murder by his wife's lover while he was in his prime and we lost more than an entertainer and classmate...we lost a friend.
