Further education led Brother Francis to a Bachelor's degree in education from the University of Dayton in 1926 and to an M.A. in German from St. Louis University in 1940. Throughout his life he remained a teacher of German, music, and English, and a Director of glee clubs and occasional basketball coach.

 

Most of Brother Francis' assignments were in the St. Louis area. He taught at McBride from 1927-32 and again from 1934-45. He worked at Central Catholic in East St. Louis from 1932-34. 1945-57 saw him at St. Michael's in Chicago. From 1957 until his death he served at St. Mary's High School in St. Louis.

 

Brother Mueller had special musical talent. He conducted many choruses and operettas. In 1938 when the National Catholic Conference on Christian Doctrine held its national convention, he was commissioned to form and direct the all-St. Louis Boys' Choir. He also held office in the Catholic Music Educators' Association of Missouri. In 1950 he was in charge of the choral group for the Marianist centennial celebration in St. Louis. His success on the conducting podium was attributable not only to his musical gifts but also to his persuasive manners and to the inspiration that he brought to his beloved musical work.
