Brother Brand died on January 18, 1976.
Brother Vincent Brand was born in 1902 in the bustling city of Chicago. He made his postulate at Ferguson, Missouri and took his first vows at Maryhurst in 1920. After two years of scholasticate in Dayton, Brother Vincent took up his career as a teacher (Manitoba, St. Louis, East St. Louis, Chicago), director and principal (Victoria and Detroit from 1938 to 1944), prefect (Chaminade and St. Mary's University). He was also a coach, athletic director and counselor, as well as managing bookstores and bowling leagues.
During more than fifty years of active religious life, Brother Vincent was probably best known for his unflagging support of the missions (his class was perennially a leader in mission collections) and for his work with the alumni of the schools in which he served. He helped many McBride and St. Mary's high school classes to organize their reunions and kept up a close personal contact with hundreds of his former students.
One of his more well-known students, Bishop Edward T. O'Meara, National Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, wrote upon hearing of his death, "Brother Vincent was on the faculty of McBride when I was a student there, and he was one of the influences in my life for which I am grateful to God."
