Tom Lombardo (Physical Education Teacher)

 Thomas A. Lombardo, a former principal, teacher and coach at Bayless High School, died Thursday (Oct. 15, 1992) at St. Anthony's Medical Center in south St. Louis County after a long illness. He was 59.

Mr. Lombardo, of South County, began his 30-year career at Bayless High in 1956 as a teacher. He taught for 19 years and also coached track, cross-country, baseball and basketball during that time.

He later served as athletic director and associate principal at the high school, in Affton. He was principal for about seven years before he retired in 1986.

Mr. Lombardo was born in St. Louis. He graduated from Bayless High and had a bachelor's degree from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and a master's degree from Washington University.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mary Mother of the Church, 5901 Kerth Road, Mehlville. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Mehlville. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Among survivors are his wife of 35 years, Helen Nolan Lombardo; three daughters, Mary Mallette and Tricia Bouton, both of south St. Louis County, and Kathleen DePung of St. Louis; two sons, Tom Lombardo Jr. and Tim Lombardo, both of South County; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made for Masses; to the Stroke Survivors of the American Heart Association; or to the Bayless High School Alumni Fund.
