Starting to go through US Directories to find classmates - I noted classmates still in St Louis like Jack Scharr who is a world reknown art dealer (Chesterfield, MO) and Fred S. Flegel (who isn't shown on the class list, but is in the 1962 Echos Yearbook) - Fred was highlighted in the St Louis Business Journal and is a semi-retired CPA but for those of you in St Louis try to get their address, e-mail and invite them to the reunion..

I have e-mailed Rick Venghaus on several deaths that I uncovered - Neal Amos (2008), Peter Geloso (2009) and John Duerbusch.(2009)

I did  track down Patricia Calvin (Rudloff) she  and I share a cousin (Stephen Dohrmann RGHS class of 1961) and lives in Lake St Louis area.

The organization committee has done a great job setting this up, now let's find our classmates and meet them in September.

Classmates,

Here is a link one of my brothers sent me some time ago.  Sorry for the delay in passing it on.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUd2GmJdxbo&feature=share .   The YouTube video was produced by St. Louis TV station KETC.  Play video

It is a clip about "North County", where we lived and went to school.  I don't recall the area going by that name in our day, but the video is full of memorable shots and descriptions of things we enjoyed while growing up and attending RGHS.

Let me know if you enjoy if or recognize anything (I thought I saw my old house but must be wrong about that).

Regards,

Steve Unks

Steve - I remember the Steak n Shake at the circle as well as the 66 Drive-in.  We also were the generation (war time babies) that saw the benefits of our hardworking parents who wanted a better life for future generations. All the Hathaway subdivisions just seemed to arise out of all those old farms.  I just exchanged text messages with my cousin who pitched for RGHS in the state semi-finals against Beaumont,  but we both commented how about Khoury League, it was unique to North St Louis as I recall.

When I saw the Bob Cuban Band, it really brought back memories of Carol Sewell, Carole Vazis, Sherry Earl and I going to Teen Town in Bellefontaine!  Of course, girls danced with girls and the boys lined the walls.

Thank you for sharing good memories of North County!

Classmates, it saddens me to report what some or many of you may already know.  We have lost one of our own.  Johnny (aka Roy Edward) Bellman died this June in Florida.  He had experienced a number of health problems over the last year or so.

I spoke with John's wife, Valerie, who gave me some information to pass along.  There will be a service for John at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, 02 August, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.  John was a Vietnam War veteran, having received a Bronze Star for his service.  Those of you who have remained in or around St. Louis undoubtedly know where the cemetery is, but for the benefit of all, here's a link to the official website:

 https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/jeffersonbarracks.asp

John and Valerie attended our 50th in 2012.

I know Valerie, John's sisters, and his children would appreciate meeting and talking with any of his classmates who can attend.  For those who want to contact Valerie directly to express condolences or inquire about his burial service, her email is: valerie0920@msn.com

Regards,

Steve

Johnny (Roy) Bellman was an extraordinarily intelligent and fun guy.  I reconnected with Johnny on LinkedIn as he was an expert in Teradata.  As he said in his bio he was an expert in big data long before it became a tech business focus.  My condolences to his family, friends and many business associates on your loss.

Sadly each year we lose classmates, but also relatives.  My cousin Stephen Dohrmann who was a couple of years ahead of me at Riverview and played on the baseball team (pitcher), succumbed to cancer on July 13, 2019.  He like a number of veterans have died due to cancer caused by Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Stephen was in the Air Force originally serving at Scott AFB.  He was a graduate of Northwestern University and worked in advertising with a number of large firms in St. Louis and Chicago.  In his advertising career, Stephen worked with the American Diary Association to produce commercials that had actor Vincent Price (also a former St. Louisian) as the lead spokesperson.  Stephen is survived by three sons and 7 grandchildren.  I will miss his humor and the many stories he had about Riverview Baseball.

I apologize for not exploring for this option earlier.
I wanted to let all of the RGHS class of 1962 know that in October 2021 our classmate Jack Reichenberg went to be with our Lord. Jack was a great friend and served our country with honor in the US Navy. Jack will be missed by many.

My wife has become a proponent of online retail during this pandemic. Today she received blue jeans with the admonition to wash before using. This brought back memories of wearing new jeans to grade school, going home while playing in a blizzard then removing them before getting off the foot rug as instructed by  Mom. They went to the wash and my pale blue whitey tighties and pale blue legs went to the bath!

Familiar?

RGHS was supposed to get $13 million in Missouri state funds to repair and up grade it's buildings but Governor Parsons vetoed the money approved by the state legislature.  The state has $3 billion in budget surplus.  If you live in Missouri e-mail, call or write the Governor as this is a disgrace to the class of 1962 and all others that followed us to get a high school diploma.  I live in Colorado now and I am sure anything I do will be ignored.
