Dean Arbogast 1922-2007

Dean Arbogast, 85, of Normal, formerly of Streator, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 7a.m. at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Streator Country Club and the John H. Kraus Post 454 VFW in Bloomington.

Mr. Arbogast was a 1940 graduate of University High School in Normal and received his undergraduate and Master's degree from Illinois State Normal University. He taught two years at Gibson City and then from 1951 to 1988 at Streator High School, where he taught music, English, and speech.

 Donald Arthur 1915-2002

Donald Arthur, 87, former Streator resident, now residing in Frederick, Me., died Tuesday morning, October 8, 2002 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Maryland.

Mr. Arthur was a graduate of LaSAlle-Peru High School.  He received his undergraduate degree from Illinois State Normal University and a Master's degree in music from the Vandercook School of Music in Chicago.  He was a music and English teacher at Tonica, Woodland, and Streator high scxhool where he taught until 1962,  He left Streator High school to move to Riverside, California where he taught at Riverside City College.  He retired in 1983. 

Walter Baysinger  1896-1984

Walter Baysinger died in December, 1984.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois.  He was the Agricultre teacher at SHS.

Karl Brix  1905-1975

Karl Brix, 70, died in March, 1975.

Mr. Brix did his undergraduate work at Syracuse University where he received his bachelor's degree.  He received his master's degree from Illinois State Normal University.  While at Streator High School, he taught mathematics.

Doris Brix  1903-2000

Doris Brix, 97. died Thursday, August 17, 2000.

Mrs. Brix taught Business classes at Streator High School.

Henry Dutler  1899-1978

Henry Dutler died in February, 1978.

Mr. Dutler received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois.  He taught mathematics.  He was also the the Senior Class Sponsor of our Class of 1960.

Albert "Swede" Lundberg 1917-1991

Mr. Lundberg died September 8, 1991, at St. Mary's Hospital.

He received his bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Illinois. He taught Physical Education and also coached football and track for 21 years.

 Francis McInerney 1925-2004

Francis J. McInerney, 79, died Sunday, October 17, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Mr. McInerney attended St. Patrick's Grade School and LaSalle-Peru High School.  He graduated from Western Illinois University and earned his Master's degree from Northern Illinois University.  He was a veteran of World War II.  He served with the United States Army Air Force and was stationed in Guam.  He was a teacher and basketball, swimming, and football coach.  Later he also became a guidance counselor at Streator High School.  He began his teaching career at Streator high School in 1952 and retired in 1983,  He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #591, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1492, Streator Country Club, Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the American Federation of Teachers.

Louis A. Magierski 1904-1990

Mr. Magierski died Tuesday, November 27, 1990.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois.  While at Streator High school he taught Social Science.

 James L. "Jack" Stephens  1924-2008

"Jack" Stephens, 84, of Streator, died Tuesday morning, July 22, 2008.

Mr. Stephens was from West Frankfort where he attended grade school and high school.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.  He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Illinois University. 

He coached and taught at  Anna-Jonesboro High School, where he coached the baseball team to a state championship.  He also was the assistant superintndent of schools in Franklin County.  Stephens came to Streator High School in 1955 and retired in 1984.  While at Streator High he taught physical education, driver's education, math, and social studies.  Mr. Stephens was the head baseball coach and assisted with football, wrestling, and basketball.  He was inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of fame in 1983.  In 2005, he was inducted into SHS Hall of Fame, as the coach of his 1963 baseball team, the last Streator team to make the "Elite Eight."  In 2007, the Football Field House was dedicated as the Jack Stephens Field House.

 

 Della Swanson  1895-1978

Della "Ma" Swanson died in 1978.

Mrs. Swanson recieved her certification from Streator Teachers' Training School and her bachelor's degree from Illinois State Normal University.  She taught General Business classes while at Streator High School.
