Donald Gilbert (1942 - 2002)

Donald James Gilbert, 60, of 708 Lundy St., died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church.  The Rev. Larry Booze will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home.

Born July 5, l942 in Streator, he was the son of John and Audrey (Copeland) Gilbert.  He married Linda Leslie on Feb. 13, 1971.  She survives.

Also surviving are children:  Chris Marie (Mrs. Randy) Barnec, John (Sandy) Leslie and Cathy (Mrs. Raymond) Berry, all of Streator, Connie (Mrs. Rich) Horen of De Kalb, Laurie (Mrs. Darrell) Applebee of Ponchatoula, La., and Paula (Mrs. David) Thompson of Paddock Lake, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Mary) Gilbert of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He attended Streator schools and was employed at Caterpillar in Pontiac since 1978.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Army and was a member of the Streator American Legion Post #217, Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1492 and Streator Moose Family Lodge.

He was a member of First Assembly of God Church.

Memorials may be directed to Streator Public Library or to St. Mary's Hospice Program.
