James Moreland, age 68, of St. Charles, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2010 at the RML Specialty Hospital in Hindsdale, IL.  He was born August 20, 1942, in Bloomington, IL, the son of James and Gertrude (Parkhouse) Moreland.  He was united in marriage to Sandra Meurlott on April 24, 1981, in St. Charles.

James was head of the welding department for Waubonsee Community College for several years.  He later owned and operated Moreland Welding, Training and Testing Services in St. Charles.  Jim was at home outdoors.  He loved spending time canoeing, hiking, biking, rollerblading, cross-country skiing, and archery.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing anything that required working with his hands  He will be remembered most as a genuinely kind man who loved his family dearly. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandi; his step-children, Julie (Brian) Hinds of Elburn and Todd (Kathy Murtaugh) Montgomery of Batavia; five grandchildren, Benjamin and Amie Hinds, Mallori, Teal, and Patrick Montgomery; his mother, Gertrude Moreland of Streator; and his siblings Richard Moreland and Denise (Gary) Elliott both of Streator. William (Joanne) Moreland of Ottawa, and many nieces and nephews.  James is preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, November 19, 2010, at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 South Third St. in St. Charles.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, to be used to plant memorial trees in parks in St. Charles and Streator, or the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson's Research
