Karl J. 'Butch' Muntz 1941-2010

STREATOR — Karl J. "Butch" Muntz, 69, of Ransom, died at 5:55 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The Rev. Ray Guthrie will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Ransom.

Pallbearers will be John Blair, Jim Ross, Don Ahearn, Paul Phelan, Ken Renner, Jim Palko, John Kling and Callie Simpson. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicole and Cody Black, Shane Muntz, Daniel and Jenna Koval, Zach, Cole, Seth and Toby Wheeler and Shawn and Scott Brownsey.

Born April 3, 1941, in Streator, he was the son of Carl and Hazel (Malhoit) Muntz. He married Jean Stadel on April 8, 1961, at St. Patrick's Church, Ransom. She survives in Ransom.

He is survived by his wife of Ransom; daughters, Marla (Bobby) Black and Cathy (Ted) Koval, both of Streator; a son, Tim Muntz of Ransom; and grandchildren, Nicole and Cody Black, Shane Muntz and Daniel and Jenna Koval.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William J. Muntz.

Born in Streator, Karl attended Sherman Grade School and graduated from Streator Township High School, Class of 1960. Karl and his wife, Jean, moved to Ransom shortly after they were married.

He worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Company as a machine operator for more than 40 years until his retirement. He served on the Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department for 44 1/2 years. He served as the Fire Chief for 29 1/2 years. He also served the community of Ransom as a Boy Scout Leader for many years.

Karl was an avid Chicago Bears and Notre Dame fan. He also loved attending Rivermen Hockey games. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed.

Memorials may be directed to his grandchildren's college education.
