MANVILLE —Donald L. Rhodes, 74, of Manville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
A Celebration of Don's Life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streator. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Private family burial will be at a later date in Long Point Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded. Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born Sept. 25, 1941, in Streator, he was the son of Dale and Minnie Mae (Johnson) Rhodes. He married Kathryn Ann "Kitty" Small on May 25, 1963. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2015.
He is survived by a son, David (Lisa) Rhodes, of Long Point; daughters, Karen (David) Bigger, of Pontiac, and Melinda Cusick, of Manville; grandchildren, Brittany Huckabee, Christian Rhodes, Brandon Bigger and Kassidy, Addison and Rylee Cusick; brothers, James Rhodes, of Indiana, Richard Rhodes, of Tennessee, George (Jean) Rhodes, of Texas, John Rhodes, of Streator, and Dale "Butch" Rhodes, of Nevada; and sisters, Vicki Evans, of Pontiac, Pam (John) Hill, of Streator, Linda Benning, of Michigan, and Sharon (Ken) Burleson, of Herrin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Harry Rhodes; and sisters, Margaret Mataika, Margaret Rhodes and Ruth Reynolds.
Born and raised in Streator, he attended Streator grade schools and Streator High School. He lived in the Streator and Manville area his lifetime.
He worked for Owens-Illinois Glass as an electrician until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Streator.
Don was an avid golfer and was a member of Twin Creeks. He golfed in various golf leagues through the years. He also enjoyed his many family vacations to Branson, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Central Illinois Diabetes Association and the Metabolism Institute.
