Kenneth D. Sangston, 75, pased away Thursday, June1, 2017, at his residence in Streator surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. Rev. Adam Wolfgang will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home in Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be his granchildren, Adam Sangston, Luke Sangston, Kenneth B. Sangston, John Krasnican and Brad Krasnican; and his son in law, John Mital. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Amanda Sangston, Rachel Sangston, Ellie Krasnican and his grandson, Cal Mital.
Born October 21, 1941, in Streator, he was the son of David and Catherine (Harlow) Sangston. He married Eloise M. Sabol on May 4, 1963, at St. Stephen's Church, Streator.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Sangston of Streator; a daughter Melissa (John) Mital of Streator; sons, Kenneth L. (Jennifer) Sangston of Seneca and Kevin (Tari) Sangston of Spring Valley; grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Rachel, Kenneth B. and Luke Sangston; John, Ellie and Bradley Krasnican and Cal Mital; a brother, Richard (Rita) Sangston of Mesa, Arizona; a sister, Lacene (Roger) Freese of Ottawa and his twin sister, Karen (Thomas) Centko of Marquette, Michigan; he was also survived by his beloved Cat Cookie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bradley Sangston,
Born and raised in Streator, he attended Grant Grade School and graduated from Streator High School Class of 1960. He later attended the Police Academy at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
He worked through the years at Owens Illinois Glass Company and later was a Police Officer for the City of Streator retiring in 1991 as the Chief of Police. He then worked for Illinois Valley Community College for 19 years as the Security Director of Public Safety retiring in 2012. He also served as a LaSalle Couty Deputy Coroner for 20 years,
He was a member of Sons and Friends of Erin (SAFOE) and a lifetime member of the Illinois Police Association. He was also an active volunteer with the Relay for Life for many years.
He served two terms as the City Police Commissioner, 8 years as a city councilman, 8 years on the Streator High School Board, 4 years on the Streator Grade School Board, and he also served on the LaSalle County Mental Health Board.
