John Franklin Shelton
NORTH LITTLE ROCK — John Franklin Shelton, 37, of North Little Rock, died Friday morning, Feb. 6, 2009, after a long battle with brain cancer.
He was born Oct. 8, 1971, at Stuttgart, to Ben and Alice Shelton of Jonesboro. Raised and educated in Stuttgart, John was a resident of North Little Rock since 2002. He worked for Lafferty Equipment Manufacturing for six years as its Web master.
John was a talented athlete during grade school and high school, playing football for the Stuttgart High School Ricebirds until graduating in 1990. John attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where his love of language and literature led him to earn a bachelor of arts in English in 1994.
John was a gifted guitarist, singer and writer and was well known for his sense of humor and infectious laugh. He was a fervent Democrat and political buff and an avid Razorback fan. John was known for his intelligence, courage, compassion and fierce loyalty.
He has left many heartbroken family members and friends. He is survived by his wife, Paula McCauley-Shelton; his parents; his brother, Tim Shelton of Heber Springs; brother, Ken Shelton of Quitman; sister, Laura Shelton of Columbus, Ohio; twin sister, Julie Allen of Newport; grandmother, Tersia Shelton of Jonesboro; many aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; mother-in-law; father-in-law; sisters- and brothers-in-law; and many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 Wednesday evening, and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St. 758-1170.
