I am a guest on this site I graduated with Class of 1988 but I hung out with a lot of y'all. I went into the Army after graduation served for 4 years and saw combat twice, Panama and Desert Shield/ Desert Storm, my job was a Satellite Telecommunications Operator. I met my first wife while in Saudi Arabia, we were both in the same unit. I got out in 1992 and went to work at a Nuclear power plant in Raleigh, NC for 2 years. My first wife was still in the Army and got orders to go to Germany so off to Germany for a year and a half until we divorced. I came back home to Summerville and worked at Mount Vernon Mills for awhile where I met my second wife, then I went to work at Mohawk for 4 years and then worked at a Dodge Jeep dealership as a service tech, then back to Mount Vernon. By now I was having serious health problems and the doctors couldn't figure out what was going on until I got a letter from the Secretary of Defense saying there was an accidental release of sarin nerve gas during Desert Storm and my unit was in the area. I now had my answer as to what was going on. They call it Gulf War Syndrome. I had several tests done at the VA and I am now taking a total of 11 medications so I can get thru the day in a somewhat normal way. I received my disability in 2006 and moved to Iowa to be near my daughters who live with my first wife in Des Moines. I am a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars here in Marshalltown and help fellow Veterans get the benefits they deserve and we also have sendoffs for National Guard troops leaving for Iraq and Afghanistan and welcome them home when they return. My wife and I are looking forward to June 2010 when our kids graduate high school and we will have the house to ourselves LOL
