I know what you mean about motivation. There doesn't seem to be a lot of motivation in our group. People don't answer or respond to many others who've tried similar things. I've tried the same motivation thing in sending out the little challenges, and a few other things, but very few seem to want to participate. I look at the number of messages sent within the reunion site for the past several months, but they are few and far between. These last couple weeks have been a bit more active, though. Positive sign?

I guess online isn't that great for motivation, but hopefully the reunion will still be a lot of fun.

Steve, what a super list.  I remember a lot of the places you listed because we drove around during driver's training with Mr. Burrell.  Just to get some correct facts; the Guzman family never lived at the housing authority.  Alice and I attended kindergarten there.  In fact, I remember being so tiny that I could fit in one of the draining pipes that were imbedded in the ground.  One of the boys tried to insert himself and got stuck.  I want to say it was Jimmy Pomeroy or Randy Hendrickson but I could be mistaken.  Anyway, The Guzmanes; yezzzzzzzzzir they are my family and boy did us girls (6 plus Alice) - we cut a path at the Baile Grande with our guy friends.  Joel, also a Grizzly, went on to a a famous musician who has gotten about 9 Latin music grammys. His music has been used for several movies, like Juan in a Million or a title like that.  He also recently starred in Crazy Hearts with Jeff Bridges; he was the accordian player in one of the tavern scenes.  Anyway, he made it to fame.  My 81 year old dad recently played his Bajo Sexto, a 12 string guitar, at Alice Yanez's 40th wedding anniversary.  I guess people don't know she is my aunt.  I am so excited to see everyone!!!!!!

PS - I am the second child from the right in the front row.  The last girl on the left just below the teacher is Alice Yanez.  How can I get a copy of that picture?

Nelda, that's pretty cool Joel made it with his music. I remember he played in a band(s) back then. I haven't talked to him for many years since getting out of school. Didn't you guys used to live next to the bakery on 13th, just back of 410 market?

I was able to find some pics of him online and thought you might like a couple I put together. You've probably already seen them, but I hadn't. He still looks like Joel, even after all these years, but not that tall skinny kid I remember :-)

Steve - you're the Man!!! Thanks for Joel's pictures - yes I do have lots of them but not these.  Anyway, we did not live near the 41- Market.  We lived on North 4th Street, near Reeves Way.  We were very close to the family that ran the bakery but never lived there.  In fact, the parents still live at the same home which all 9 of us kids lived in.  I am so excited to see everyone.  How can I print the pictures of Joel and our kindergarten picture?

Steve Hagensicker

OK, my bad. For some reason I thought you guys lived somewhere around the bakery. Maybe Joel practiced at a friends house there or something like that. I used to hang out at Randy's house, and he mentioned listening to them play. I could be thinking of when I was over there and Joel was practicing close by.

To print pictures, just right click and save to your computer. Then print it from your computer like you would any other file.

Or you can right click and use the print function from the drop-down menu. Either way, make sure the picture has fully loaded first.

My only regret was I was gonna chat with Sam but couldn't find him..turns out he retired early...maybe before 10!!!! The nite went so fast we couldn't believe it. For all those that came it was wonderful to see you and for those who couldn't make it, you were missed and hopefully we will see you at the 50th!!!! One last thought...I took my camera for some pics but we were so  busy I didn't take a single one so I am hoping that those of you that did will post some for us to enjoy!!!!!! Good job Steve on the story with the pics....it's priceless!!!

What a great time at the reunion!  It was so good to see how people have or haven't changed.   I'm already looking forward to the next one.  A hearty thank you to the organizers!   Next time you go through Ritzville, be sure and look us up.  And by the way, there is more to Ritzville than the freeway gas and hamburger joints.  There actually is a nice little town here!

Thanks Donna, it was just something that popped into my head. Or out of it :-)

Good to see you and Cindy, Herb.

The picture of Rocky and my husband, Rick, is priceless.  I think Rick enjoyed the reunion more than I did because he had something in common with the guys.  For some that did not hear, Rick was a student intern in 1970 at Sunnyside High School under the spanish teacher, Mrs. Schinneman.  He told me that once there he asked himself what he had gotten himself into; the girls in the front row were wearing short skirts and I think that is when his brain got fried and had to leave the field of education.  He picked a quick route - crime - that is the criminal justice system; yes, the same one Rocky is currently involved with - Dept of Corrections!!!  Nothing has been done to Correct them.  Had a great time; maybe we need a picnic type forum in five years for our families!!!!!!!!!

Remembering Kennedy's Assassination: I was in Lincoln School; if Steve says he was in the 5th grade, then I must have been in the 5th grade too.  I just don't remember who my teacher was.  I remember black and white TVs going on throughout the classrooms.  An announcement was made over the loud speaker that Kennedy was killed.  I recall classmates crying; I am not sure what I felt other than fear because others were so upset.  I did not really "get it" until watching TV later with my family and hearing the tragic news that finaly sunk in.

Randy, I don't think I am in the Kindergarten picture that you posted.  I had Mrs. Davis as a teacher and my memory is that she had short brown hair.

For those of you that served in the military or have family that did, thank you for that. Remembering those we have lost this Memorial Weekend.

Here it is - "Covid2020" and next year is 50 years for our class.   I was thinking  about that and found the website - I guess I am sorry that I did not ever search for this in the past.   I especially appreciate Ed Lyon's photo of the kindergarten class - that was Bill Ooms and I that came for one year and then came back in the 9th grade.   Also the list brought back the memories, thats for sure.  It would be nice to get together for the 50th and possibly have a combined reunion with 1970 as they had to cancel theirs because of the virus.

Donna,

What kind of information are you looking for about Richard (Dick) Graham?  If you look at the Memoriam section here, there are some very weird rumors and comments.

I visited him just before he passed away, in Phoenix, AZ.  His official cause of death was "Valley Fever" but that was a result of his compromised immune syndrome due to HIV, which he contracted from his partner.  It's doubly sad because he thought he was in a monogamous relationship. He was deeply loved by friends and family for his loyalty and sense of humor.

As you can imagine, this is still a touchy subject for some people.  He was one of my best friends, and I will always love and miss him.

Hi Lou,

I know there were a lot of rumors.  I was only interested in his date and place of death.  Dick was a fantastic guy and I know he is missed by many of us.  Thank you for sharing your information about him.  It makes me sad to know that someone broke his heart. If you happen to know his date and place of death I would love to add that to our memorial board.

Thanks,

Donna

Hi Donna,

THanks for your kind response.  I know that Richard passed away in Phoenix, AZ.  I will look through my stuff to see if I can find a date.

Hi again, Donna.  The best I can do for Richard's date of death is November, 1989.

Thanks for working on this -- see you soon!

Lou
