I remember the day we got the call! We tried emphatically to get Dean to come to the golf course with us as we had a Match that Tuesday. We respected the fact you had work to do around the house and little did we know what would happen later that day. We miss you, We love you and we will NEVER forget YOU! Class of 1980

I miss Dean and think of him often. We had a lot of laughs together. I recall the day he passed very vividly, we were all in shock. He was a wonderful son and a great friend.

Of all the different voids created by Dean's tragic accident, the one that spoke the loudest to me was felt in our French II class. By the time of that sad spring day, there were only three guys left in that class - Dean, Harlan Halma and myself. We had a great time being outnumbered by all the girls, and in a French class! Yet, there was a definite void and emptiness that we literally felt and saw each day; we never moved Dean's empty desk from our group, and he never left our hearts nor thoughts.

People often speak of how vividly they remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard about the death of JFK. For me, and probably for many other classmates, April 14, 1979 left a similar impact on us. We lost our dear friend, Dean and our young hearts were broken.

I remember receiving the call. I remember spending the night at my friend Syndie’s home and crying myself to sleep.

I remember how painfully quiet the halls were at school the following Monday. Girls were softly weeping, and I will never forget the look on the boy’s faces, most of them Dean's friends. Our sadness was hard to bear.

I remember many faces at his service. The one I remember most vividly, Mrs. Meadowcroft's. Trude’s incredible strength and belief in her faith was evident in her beautiful smile; it gave me courage and brought me solace in my grief.

I remember the conversations- Dean had just been chosen to Boys' State... Martina Soto was the lucky girl he had asked to Prom...

Dr. & Mrs. Meadowcroft raised a wonderful young man. Dean was kind, smart, generous, funny, and a handsome son.

High School is a crazy time when everyone is trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be. For Dean all of this including the cliques, circles of friends, and groups, didn’t seem to matter- He was a friend to all. I admired him so much for his kind heart and genuine friendship.

His caring, generosity, positive light and quality of his character touched everyone he knew. We all loved Dean and we were all so blessed to have called him our friend.

We remember and miss you Dean; we will always keep you in our hearts.

Very Very well said Rosie, I couldn't have said any of these thoughts better myself.  I have also thought of what you said about "where we were, when we got the news" I was in the history class I had with Dean when I heard, and it was crushing.  He was truly one of the nicest kindest people I've ever known, and have thought of him throughout my whole life, his sweetest we took with us as inspiration to hope to be like, and his sprit will never be forgotten.  I will be working on a memorial of this and others for our reunion.
