Janet Clare Dodd (Stone)

Janet C. Stone
1944 ~ 2016
Janet Clare Stone, age 71, passed away peacefully in her Boise home on April 13, 2016. Born June 12, 1944, in Sunnyvale, California, to Wesley and Virginia Dodd, she grew up among the orchards in Sunnyvale. Because of her extended family, she developed a lifelong enjoyment of camping. Janet graduated from Sunnyvale High School, attended Beauty College and worked for 10 years as a beautician. She married and had a son, William. When Will was young, she divorced and moved to Boise, Idaho to be near family. She attended Boise State University and received a Bachelor of Nursing degree. For 32 years, she practiced nursing at St. Luke's RMC; she initially worked in general surgery and pre-op holding, then completed her career in cardio-vascular surgery. She retired in 2006.
Janet was an avid gardener and used the produce from her garden to create homemade pizza sauce, chili rellenos, and zucchini pickles. She made bread and pie dough from scratch and created lemon meringue, peach and boysenberry pies. Her friends dubbed her the Pie Queen.
Always adventurous, she enjoyed backpacking, river kayaking, and rafting. She was a huntress of big game. She also enjoyed long distance biking. She completed the Bogus Basin Hill climb several times. To celebrate her sixty-fifth birthday, she completed the 204 mile Seattle to Portland bike ride. She loved to downhill ski and was a member of Bogus Basin Ski Club and Vertigals. With Debi, Alice, Penny, and Connie, her friends, they formed Thirty-Two Degree Below Ski Sisters. They skied at many resorts in Idaho and Utah.
During her life, she indulged in her love of travel and visited the Caribbean, Costa Rica, New Zealand, British Isles and much of Europe, frequently touring with her best friend Mollie and returning with treasures and memories.
In retirement, she became a volunteer at IPTV. The wonderful people at IPTV entrusted her to run the TV camera during their fund raising "Festival."
She is survived by her son, Will Stone; sisters, Phyllis and Christina; and their families.
She would like to thank the Doctors at MSTI, St. Luke's Hospice, and Bright Star Care for all the great care and compassion she received.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Idaho Public Television at 1455 N Orchard Street, Boise, ID 83706.
A memorial service will be held on April 20, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Castle Hills Church of the Nazarene 5707 Castle Dr. Boise, ID. A celebration will follow directly after the service at 5319 Edenburgh Way.
