School Story:

I have this vivid memory of the song Don't Stop Believin' (from Journey) playing as the bus pulled out of the parking lot following the MVUHS '89 late-night graduation party. In fact, all these years later whenever I hear that song I think back to that moment.

The problem is that I don't trust memories like this anymore; it's exactly the kind of thing that gets lodged in my head somehow but I find out years later it never happened. For one thing, none of our school buses had sound systems, so how could it have been playing in the first place? I don't remember any other songs playing, or who else was on the bus, or even where the party was located. I wonder now if I was too eager to believe I was just a small town boy on "that midnight train bound for anywhere" and somehow the song became associated with graduation in my mind. Does anyone else remember this?

On a related note, a singer named Petra Haden does a version of that song that is totally a cappella, including the guitar solo. It's awesome! You can find it at iTunes, and other quality music merchants I'm sure.
