GIRLS TRACK

The torjans put in a very good showing in track and field competition this year(1965).  The team placed first in both the dysart Invitational and the   H-L-V Invitational, and also, placed second at the Belle Plaine Invitational.  At South east Polk dual meet, the Trojans took second.  They did especially well in the District Track Meet where they won third place.  They went on to finish the season by taking 8th place in the Girls High School Track and Field Meet.

At the Drake Relay the 400 yard relay tream took 7th and Ann Kaufman took 2nd in the 100 yard Dash.  Ann Kaufman placed 3rd in the 60 yard Dash and 1st in the Shot Put at the State Indoor Track meet, where the 440 yard Relay team also took 7th place. The Shuttle Relay Team of  Barb Bueke, Shirley Backen, Mary Lou Moore, and Mary Ellen Tower, the 440 yard Relay Team of Jean Gardner, Mary Lou Moore, Marsh Downs and Ann Kaufman, the 880 yard Run by Cindy Norton, the 440 yard Run by Eileen Blackcloud, and the 60 yard Dash, 100 yard Dash, and Shot Put by Ann Kaufman all qualified for state.  Of these Cindy Norton finished 3rd in the state in her event, and Ann Kaufman finished 3rd in both the 60 yard Dash adn the 100 yard Dash, and the 2nd in the Shot Put.

The special Mention goes to Ann Kaufman who  placed 6th in the nation at the U.S. Federation Track and Field Meet California--she was the only Iowa girl to place at this event.

GIRLS TENNIS

The Tama-Toledo Tennis Team had a rather unsuccessful season this year (1965) due to the loss of their lettermen fron the previous year. Coach Osborn hopes the firls will be out in full force this next year, putting forth the effort and times needed to make a good, successfull team.  

The Tama-Toledo GRA was very active this year with softball, valleyball, adn basketball intermurals.  Lamb's team won the basketball championship over Weaver's team.  These two groups of girls were first and second in all intermural contests this year.  A GRA slumber party was held in February.  Twerp Week was successfull again this year.  At the end of the school year a Junior-Senior camp-out was held.

The Tama-Toledo FHA chapter has spent a busy and wothwhile year.  Some of their project were running concession stands for the home football games. sponsoring two dances, Halloween party, decorating the Tama building at Christmas, serving coffee and cookies for parent teachers conferences, selling cookbooks, and entertaining at the Old Folks Home.
