Welcome to the official Teaneck High School Class Of 1969 web site.

Subject: Let’s Share the Good Stuff: Introducing our "Classmate Spotlight" 🎓

Good April Everyone,

I've received a couple of terrific "spotlights" so far. Thank-you to those who have already sent theirs in. Today, I'm going to share these two examples so everyone can see what we're looking for: a recent picture along with a short paragraph about how yo're doing since we graduated 57 years ago.  They are fun, meaningful, and a great way for all of us to reconnect and catch up. If you haven't sent yours yet, please do. I know everyone would love to hear your story. Looking forward to seeing more come in.  Send to me at Mike.Gothelf@gmail.com

Best,

Mike

(from Judith Henriques)

What I'm Doing Now:

Having retired from teaching art  in Teaneck for 25 years my husband and I left Manhattan and have retired and Sag Harbor. I plunged head first into developing my art practice (the above photo is from the recent opening at the Rhode Island Museum of Art). This is a very rewarding time in my life! If you'd like to see more of my work, my website is henriquesgallery.com

From Randy Carrin:

Education, BA, MA, Psy.D in Clinical Psychology.  Lifetime of study on meaning of Respect, Compassion, Humility and Courage. I spent 2 years living and working as an organization consultant to Shell Oil on the island of Curaçao. I Spent 7 years in Sweden with my first wife who I met while volunteering on a kibbutz in Israel. Remarried years later to current wife and have two children and two grandchildren. Worked as clinical psychologist in private practice for 35 years. Retired last year. Diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer last December.  Getting chemotherapy

From Gary Walther:

Between 1990 and 2010, I was the editor-in-chief of four luxury travel and lifestyle magazines, then spent six years as a freelance travel and food/wine writer. I've visited 66 countries, many more than once, have lived in London and Los Angeles and for short periods in Vienna and Bologna. Since retiring in 2018 I've learned Italian and become nearly fluent in German. Now I give architectural tours of Brooklyn Heights in both languages as a volunteer for Big Apple Greeters. Come take the tour in English.

Hi Everyone,

We’ve all seen it happen: a notice goes out that we’ve lost a classmate, and suddenly the guestbook is full of wonderful stories and "I wish I’d known them better" or "I didn't know they did that!" It’s clear we still care deeply about each other, but I’d like us to start sharing those flowers while we can all still smell them.

Our time at Teaneck High was just the beginning. It’s been 57 years since we walked those halls in 1969, and I know there are a thousand stories to tell. Whether you’ve spent those years traveling, building a career, enjoying retirement, or spoiling your grandkids, your classmates want to hear about it!

I am launching a "Classmate of the Month" feature on our site. 🌟

I’m asking you to take a few minutes to write a short paragraph (or two) about your life. Tell us what you’ve been up to, what brings you joy these days, or a favorite memory that still sticks with you.

Here is how to participate:

1. The Story: Write a brief update on your life since graduation.

2. The Visual: Attach a recent photo of yourself, your family, or you doing something you love.

3. The Send: Email your update and photo directly to me at: mike.gothelf@gmail.com

I’ll be cataloging these and posting one or two new spotlights every month. Let’s make our website a place where we celebrate our living history and stay truly connected.

I can’t wait to see what you’ve all been up to!

Best,

Mike Gothelf

A Note to the Teaneck High School Class of 1969 — The Year Many of Us Turn 75 (March 2026)

Dear Teaneck High School Class of 1969,

Hard to believe, but many of us are turning 75 this year. When we were seniors at Teaneck High back in 1969, walking those halls and worrying about exams, college, and what life would bring, we probably thought 75 sounded ancient. Now that we’re here, we’ve learned something important—75 isn’t old… it’s just older than 74.

What we also know by now is that life never really slows down—and neither should we.

The clock keeps ticking, the seasons keep changing, and the game is still being played. We may be in the later innings, but the scoreboard is still lit and every play still counts.

Which brings up a question worth asking ourselves:

If not now… when?

Now is the time to make the call. Now is the time to plan the lunch. Now is the time to take the trip you’ve been talking about. Now is the time to reconnect with an old friend.

Don’t wait for “someday.” By now we all know that someday has a way of turning into never.

Staying active—physically, mentally, and socially—is one of the real secrets to feeling young. Take the walk, ride the bike, get on the plane, try something new.

And let’s be honest—these days when someone says we should stay active, sometimes it just means getting up without making a noise.

But one thing truly keeps us young: connection.

Our friendships may be one of the greatest gifts of all. The bonds we formed at Teaneck more than 55 years ago still connect us today. We may live in different places, but those shared years created something time hasn’t erased.

We may have left Teaneck long ago, but Teaneck has never left us. Bischoff's and Louie's Charcoal pit  have left Teaneck, but thats another story for anotherday.

I was reminded of that recently when I got together with Lissa Hirsh, Mike Koizim, Steve Muhlstock, Betty Greenberg Faber, Mike Cook, Gary Heller, Jedd Levine, Harry Kreps, Buddy Flatemen, Jeff Wilson, Gene and Rudy Gilbert, Rick Miller, and Joan Hertzog Kafer. The conversation picked up right where it left off decades ago—lots of laughs, great memories, and proof that these friendships still mean a lot. Here a a few photos from those meet ups: (Sorry...not everyone posed for my camera)

At this stage of life, it’s really not about possessions. It’s not about cars, homes, or material things. What matters most is how we’ve lived—the laughter, the shared moments, the friendships, and the memories we continue to create.

That’s the real scoreboard.

Because the truth is, some of the sweetest moments in life happen in the extra innings of life. So step up to the plate. Take a good swing. Run the bases.(At least walk all the way around)

And keep asking the question that matters most:

If not now… when?

Here’s to good health, great friendships, and many more memories still waiting to be made.

And if this note reminds you of a classmate you haven’t spoken to in a while, maybe today is a good day to reach out to them.

With gratitude and pride in being part of this remarkable class,

Your friend,

Mike Gothelf
