I always remember Brian talking about moving to Australia to be a farmer after he left school and then I ended up being the one to move here.  Was sorry to see all the classmates who have left us.

I knew Brian before I attended Oak Avenue. He & Craig Brown were best friends at Emperor Elementary School and Craig lived in my neighborhood. When I started at Oak Avenue, I was lucky to have these two really cool guys as my friend. Brian was a great athlete, I mean really tallented to the point it would piss Craig off. I wish he would have continued with spoorts through high school. One saturday when we were in 5th grade, the three of us went to the San Gabriel Bowling Alley. Brian mastermined a plan for uo to get a pac of cigerettes. We drew straw... the first guy, Brian, walked past the cigerette machine, droped a quarter, and continued walking out the door....Craig, then walked by & pulled the lever (Lucky Strike) and walked out the door..... Robbie, having the short straw, had to reach in, grab the Cigs, and walk out the door. Once successfull, we biked to "Big Hole" (Norman's Nursery), and smoked until we turned green & threw up!! Another great day of being young & stupid in Temple City. Miss you Brian, Hope you are giving Craig all he can handle up there. Can wait to draw straws again.

Steve North and I had a similar way of buying cigarettes. He and I would ride my Stingray bicycle up to Winchel's donuts. (I peddled, Steve Road on the back!)

One of use would distract the lady inside by buying a donut while the other guy (me) would walk up, put in the dime and the quarter, pull the lever for Marlboro, and then scoot out to the alley where we would meet up.
I always hated smoking but Steve would talk me into doing all sorts of stupid sh-t!

Best time of my life hanging out with Steve.

PS

I met "The Marlboro Man" at an RV rally. The rally was for those who drove a front wheel drive motor home called a Revcon. Nice guy (and still struck a great pose), but he was quite about how he had made his money - one of the other guys pointed it out to me.
