I met Larry in 1966 playing Little League baseball--we were on the same team: Graham Plumbing--Larry was the catcher and I was shortstop. We became fast friends and tight for a couple years--I used to hang at his house alot, and I can hear 'Yellow Submarine' or anything from the Doors 1st album and be immediately at Larry's house on 'Tobacco Road'. Even after our paths diverged, anytime we saw each other there was always  pleasure in the friendship, even after high school. I was at San Diego State at the same time as his younger sister, Nancy, and i saw her at a party in late May '78--she told Larry me was in the hospital in Hawaii., but she didn't seem too worried. I left for Mexico the next day. When I came back two weeks later I found out Larry had died. Truly, somebody I would have loved to have seen grow old. I laugh--my Mom loved Larry--noted 'bad boy'--because Larry was always SO polite. He was! Smart, too. And, I can still remember his laugh. I toast my friend, Larry Stevens, every November 15.

Theo, the music I remember from Larry's back room was the Da Capo album by Love.

Great comment about Tabacco Road - where all the bad boys would hang out.

I too have many fond memories of my time with Larry and his back room. Lots of sex drugs and rock n roll.

I remember Steve North telling me of his overdose while Steve and I were hanging out on Daines Drive in front of my house. What a tragic loss of a very good "old soul".

I also remember when his mother burned down their kitchen making candles. She didn't know about the need for a double boiler and ignited the wax vapors that had coated the kitchen walls.

I often wonder how I made it this far. My mother used to say that I "was sleeping with the angles" when her friends would ask her why she allowed me to do what I did back then.
Hearing my stories, my daughters now use my adventures as a way to get me to agree to their desire to travel!

Mike: Larry's "back" room--the album I remember, along with the black lights and blacklight posters was Cream's 'Disraeli Gears'. That was a very cool room! Hope to see you at the Reunion , Mike.

Theo, Larry did have some great music in there. I also seem to recall something about Sloe Gin...or was that a fever dream?

I'm not sure yet if I will make it to the reunion, but I may get to The Boat on Friday...still up in the air about where I will be.

Mike--would love to chat with you--if only about photography. Or to commiserate politically. At least get to The Boat! Theo
