Janis L. Barba, 71, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Maumee.

On August 27, 1941 in Tiffin; she was born to Wilbert V. and Marian C. (McCracken) Briney. She married Roland Hudson on April 18, 1961 and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1988. She later married Fred Barba on October 25, 1991 and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2012.

Survivors include a son, Rick (Zelka) Hudson of Glenwood, MD; daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Eyster of Selinsgrove, PA; Shelly (Rick) Ross of Maumee; step sons, Dave (Carol) Hudson of Murfreesboro, TN; Steven (Kristina) Barba of Sturgis, SD; Scott Barba of Forest, OH; step daughters, Rhoda (Dan) Holt of Lancaster, OH; Stephannie Barba of Cleveland, OH; Stacy (John) Corbin of Wharton, OH; brother, Jon W. (Sue) Briney of Powell, OH; sister, Jeanne (Mike) Petrosini of Oregon, OH; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.

Janis was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and a 1959 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Heidelberg College and a Master’s from Ashland University. Janis began as a substitute teacher in 1977 and in 1979 began teaching full time. She taught kindergarten and first grade at Clinton, Noble and Krout Elementary school for over 28 years, retiring in 2007. After retirement, she continued as a substitute teacher from 2008-2011.

She was a member of the Y-Wives, enjoyed her Bridge Club, reading, crossword puzzles, listening to music, shopping, traveling, and antiques. She spent as much time as she could at Lake Erie where she enjoyed boating. She also spent the month of March in St. Augustine, FL for many years.

Her funeral will be Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna VanTrees officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery next to her first husband, Roland.

Friends may visit and share memories on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 5-8 PM at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 AM at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the American Cancer Society.
