I was saddened to learn of the passing of Dean Bauer.  We both lived in the same neighborhood and were friends both in and out of school.  My most vivid memory of Dean is after he had "souped up" his black Cushman scooter and offered to take me for a test ride.  Somewhat reluctanly I got on the seat behind him and we took off and ended up going down Clinton Avenue past my parents house at about 50 mph!  Luckily they did not see us go by and they never said anything to me later.  However, when we finally came to a stop at Dean's home on Ohio Avenue, I was very glad to get off the scooter in one piece.  Living on the edge seemed a little too risky for me.  It never seemed to be for Dean.  Thanks for ALL the former memories, Dean.

So sorry to hear of Dean's passing but that is the process we all know far to well.  Once we are born we are on our life's journey and the same result faces us but we hope it is long into the future.  70 years is a good long run, but most of us would prefer to think of 70 as finally reaching middle age.  That has been my goal and in a couple of weeks, I will finally have reached middle aged, feeling great and still ticking.  We offer our condolences to Dean's family and pray for their healing.

I am sorry to hear that Dean has passed.  Dean was in all of my classes at Tiffin Junior High. Junior High was plagued with many bitter teachers who used to berate us for very minor infractions.  Dean was always getting in trouble with them because he wouldn't let any of their injustices pass without pointing it out.  We all secretly admired him for having the courage to talk back to them - most of us were too cowed to comment.  I am sure if he encounters any of those petty tyrants in the afterlife he will continue to give them the flak they deserve..

Once again, a reminder of Dean's address.  It's posted up top, but all the lines are very close and run together.  Tis difficult to read.

Dean was a special friend in my life, a genuinely good guy who shared the special tribulations of being a teenager in Tiffin and gave me an early glimmer of recognition that a lot of us mean something important to each other. A person with whom we could be honest and provide some mutual support in what could be really tough emotional times in a young adult's life...........plus he had a really cool car!

Nothing but good thoughts for that man! Blessings on his family. Aloha pumehana dear friend.
