John R. “Jack” Myers, 79, of Tiffin, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Mercy Health-St. Vincent Hospital.

He was born on May 06, 1945, in Cuyahoga County, to John and Evelyn (Musser) Myers.  On June 10, 1967, he married Elizabeth A. “Beth” Nuss and she preceded him in death on November 15, 2021.

Survivors include his sons, Pete (Renee) Myers of Tiffin and Paul (Kim) Myers of Queen Creek, AZ; five grandchildren, Ken (Chasity) Thomasson, Ashley (Daniel Fleckner) Myers, Derek Myers, Austin Myers and Dylan (Aryana) Myers; and four great grandchildren, Claudia Rae Fleckner, Colt Fleckner, Brianna Thomasson and Alex Thomasson.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Myers in 1967 and his father, John and stepmother, Anita (Miller) Myers.

Jack was a 1963 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a 1967 graduate of Heidelberg College.  He started his teaching career teaching one year in New Riegel and retired as a music teacher after 35 years from Bellevue City Schools.  Jack spent many years working at the Riverview Inn front desk and summers at Leiners Men’s  Clothes.  For 30 years he ran the Sunday school program and directed the youth choirs at the First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin.  He continued at First Lutheran Church with singing in the choir, playing the handbells and served on numerous church committees.  He sang in the Heidelberg community choir from 1968 until approximately 2020.  He was a camp counselor and Director at Kirkmont Camps for many years and also sat on numerous boards around Tiffin, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Heidelberg, St. Francis, Columbian Alumni, among others.

Jack was always willing to lend a hand or an ear, and he never met a person he didn’t like.  Once he met you, he remembered everything and you were a friend for life.

His Memorial Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 with Pastor Clayton Bailey officiating.  A private burial will take place in Fairmont Cemetery.

I am so sad to hear this. So enjoyed the times when we were able to connect at our reunions and birthday get togethers. My deepest sympathy to his family.

God bless them and comfort them during this time.
