Mr. Gillig
He was preceded in death by his father, Chick Gillig.
Gene was a 1963 graduate of Columbian High School and attended Bowling Green State University. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the church council, a chairman of the stewardship committee; past president of the Tiffin Jaycees and former member of the Tiffin Elk Lodge 94.
Mr. Gillig was very active in city government, serving 16 years on the city's Planning Commission, serving one term as vice chairman and 15 years as chairman on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was known at Lincoln Elementary school as "Mrs. Gillig's Mr. Gillig." An avid Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he was also a Columbian football and band supporter. He coached little league baseball for several years, making sure everyone got a chance to play. That meant sending a kid up to bat who would swing before the pitcher had even finished warming up.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather who was loved by his family and supported his children, he will be sadly missed.
