There is a great picture of smiling Mike on efboyd.com the funeral home handling the arrangements.  He has his KU ball cap on and smiling!

Mike & I went to Crane Jr. High. He and I played football there. I was quarterback, he right end. I would call a pass play that would go to Mike. He was very tall in Jr. High so it was an easy target. I would throw the ball to where I knew he would be -- and I would see this pair of hands come up over the defense -- catch -- touchdown!!

It was great to see and talk with Mike at the 50th Class Reunion. He was a good man. He will be sorely missd. R.I.P. Mike!!

I had a nice visitt with Mike at our 50th.  I had remembered him as a heck of a nice kid in HS, and was not disappointed to find he was still nice, if no longer a kid!  His family lost him WAY too soon.

Mike sat next to me  in tenth grade homeroom.  He was always kind, loved to joke around and seemed to be self-assured.  He helped make me feel comfortable and accepted since I was quite shy.  Starting my school day with Mike on the side of me was a great delight and now a wonderful memory.  My sympathy to the family.

I liked Mike very much. He was very friendly, kind, and thoughtful.  I will miss seeing him at our next reeunion.

I knew "Big Mike" better from spring track than FB, as we both did the discus. Many hours of throwing and fetching!

He was the quiet, reserved guy, even more so than me. I like to think of him as the gentle giant. Looking back and knowing what I know now, he could easily have been one of the all time KS HS greats in that event, had  specific event coaching been available for him. He had the "stuff"! Me, not so much...Ha!

Looking back into time, I am greatly saddened by the realities of racial relations during our early years. "Majority" kids today can become so much closer to those of color than was true for us. Thank God for the future.

Goodbye Big Mike!

Little Mike T.
