To my fellow classmates, I am so sorry I missed the fun....I actually flew in and was at my sisters when my RA and Fibromyalgia flared up to the point of excruciating pain and the rain did not help. So, see you all next time. Looks like it was a blast! Pat H.

Hey everyone, you have probably noticed it is coming up on 50 years since high school.

Save the dates of May 28 and 29, 2021, (Memorial Day weekend) to join us as we celebrate being BLACK and GOLDen.

Plans are well underway for a 2 day celebration;  Friday, May 28th 'Crawl the Avenue' with all THS graduates as we host a celebration for the 150th anniversary for Topeka High School.

We will be partying all along Kansas Ave with special events scheduled at the Evergy Plaza Ampitheatre including a performance by the Rick Barron Band.  Specials at bars and restuarants (have heard that one is working on a Black and Gold drink).  Should be a great time.

On Saturday, May 29th. we will be having a class picture on the veranda at THS in the morning and top off the day with an evening celebration with our classmates at the Topeka Country Club.  Sal Cruz wil be  entertaining us as disc jockey.

Stay tuned for more details as they become available including T-Shirts commemorating our milestone, hotel specials, and more.

What you can do now is help us contact classmates.  Please find a way to update your contact information (e-mails would be great) or the contact information of other classmates you may know.

You can do it here on the website, reach out to a committee member using a private message on the Facebook page, or contact one of us directly.  Contacting classmates is the current committee activity and we can use all the help we can get..

Hope to see you all next May!!!!

The Reunion Committee:  Patti Kane, Leslie Kendall, Joan Barker, Linda Woodland, Carole Tozier, Cynthia Basset, Yolanda Torrez, Candy Lemon, Pat McKinney, Mark Anderson, Jane Clouse, Janie Grubbs

Fellow ‘71erfuls,

The last few weeks have been, to say the least, interesting.  But then, why not, they go with the volatile 18 months we have all been enduring.  For everyone, the reunion committee included, it is not easy for any of us to make decisions right now.

During our Tuesday night meeting the reunion committee discussed a lot of scenarios and made the decision is to continue with current plans for our 50th reunion the weekend of September 24th, Topeka High Homecoming weekend.

Continue for the time being, that is.  Obviously, we will be monitoring the situation and will follow any requirements mandated by the venues we have chosen or the government and if they cause us to cancel, we will be making new arrangements for a new date and everyone who has registered to attend can choose to attend that or request a refund.

We recognize that making decisions that are best for you and your family are paramount and recognize that making those decisions is difficult.  As well, we recognize that one size will never fit all.  With that said we hope many of you will join us that weekend for whatever events you feel you can.

Another discussion point was to, not wait for another 5 years, for another reunion.  Instead, have another reunion in a couple of years when hopefully more can feel safe and join us.  Would be interested to hear if that sounds like a good idea to everyone.

In the meantime the main weekend event for this reunion is still planned for Saturday September 25th , 6-11 at Thompson Bradbury Alumni Center on the Washburn campus at 1729 MacVicar, Topeka.  We will be following Washburn health protocols that currently require masking indoors except when eating or drinking.  We will have masks and hand sanitizer available at the door.

The good news is there is also a patio and courtyard that goes with our banquet room where there will be tables and chairs setup.  So, everyone, hope for a great Kansas autumn evening on the 25th.

Mainly, in this strange time we are in, we ask that everyone respect each other’s masking and social distancing requests.

To accommodate the time of uncertainty, we are changing our registration timeline.  Anyone who wants to attend can do so for the $50 price until September 10th.  That is the date we need to give the caterers a good count of attendees.  Of course, you are still welcome to attend by registering late or at the door.  The details are on the registration form at the link shown here.  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Axtswq9Ys7SmeEWlJ5Cj2pN28U60J5UW/view?usp=sharing

The calendar of events for our class as well as the 150th THS anniversary is varied and full.  And many are outdoors.  A list of the weekend plans can be found at the bottom of the registration form.

Remember, we still have hotel rooms reserved and t-shirts for sale. You can buy THS masks at the same time if you want.

From the 50th Reunion Committee
Final preparations are being made for our fun filled 50th Reunion on the 25th. Heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, Memorial to those we’ve lost, DJ, memorabilia, prizes, making new friendships and rekindling others.
Washburn is setting up a few tables outside for us as well as lots of space inside. Masks are required indoors unless eating or drinking. We have hand sanitizers and masks and know everyone will respect fellow classmates. Please do not come if you have been exposed to Covid recently or do not feel well.
We will be accepting registrations clear up through the 25th at Washburn. However, if you have not sent yours in yet, please let us know if you intend to come so we can make sure we have enough food. We have to turn in a number on September 15th.
We know these are scary times. We respect everyone’s decisions to do what is best for them. For those of you that have decided to join us, we are excited to see you!
Remember Friday we have a Class of ‘71 float in the Homecoming Parade. Come ride or walk with us! Parade starts at 2:00. We will be on the east side of the school.
