Fellow ‘71erfuls,
The last few weeks have been, to say the least, interesting. But then, why not, they go with the volatile 18 months we have all been enduring. For everyone, the reunion committee included, it is not easy for any of us to make decisions right now.
During our Tuesday night meeting the reunion committee discussed a lot of scenarios and made the decision is to continue with current plans for our 50th reunion the weekend of September 24th, Topeka High Homecoming weekend.
Continue for the time being, that is. Obviously, we will be monitoring the situation and will follow any requirements mandated by the venues we have chosen or the government and if they cause us to cancel, we will be making new arrangements for a new date and everyone who has registered to attend can choose to attend that or request a refund.
We recognize that making decisions that are best for you and your family are paramount and recognize that making those decisions is difficult. As well, we recognize that one size will never fit all. With that said we hope many of you will join us that weekend for whatever events you feel you can.
Another discussion point was to, not wait for another 5 years, for another reunion. Instead, have another reunion in a couple of years when hopefully more can feel safe and join us. Would be interested to hear if that sounds like a good idea to everyone.
In the meantime the main weekend event for this reunion is still planned for Saturday September 25th , 6-11 at Thompson Bradbury Alumni Center on the Washburn campus at 1729 MacVicar, Topeka. We will be following Washburn health protocols that currently require masking indoors except when eating or drinking. We will have masks and hand sanitizer available at the door.
The good news is there is also a patio and courtyard that goes with our banquet room where there will be tables and chairs setup. So, everyone, hope for a great Kansas autumn evening on the 25th.
Mainly, in this strange time we are in, we ask that everyone respect each other’s masking and social distancing requests.
To accommodate the time of uncertainty, we are changing our registration timeline. Anyone who wants to attend can do so for the $50 price until September 10th. That is the date we need to give the caterers a good count of attendees. Of course, you are still welcome to attend by registering late or at the door. The details are on the registration form at the link shown here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Axtswq9Ys7SmeEWlJ5Cj2pN28U60J5UW/view?usp=sharing
The calendar of events for our class as well as the 150th THS anniversary is varied and full. And many are outdoors. A list of the weekend plans can be found at the bottom of the registration form.
Remember, we still have hotel rooms reserved and t-shirts for sale. You can buy THS masks at the same time if you want.
