Good morning!  If you're planning on participating in the homecoming parade tomorrow, please meet us at 1:30pm on Polk Street (east side of Topeka High).  Look for our class float.  Hope to see you Friday.

I'm sorry I won't be able to attend this great event. I was planning on getting on the plane in about an hour, but last night I tested positive for COVID. Our town has had a huge outbreak lately. I'm feeling fine just one of workmates tested positive so I had take the test before flying. I'm vaccinated, so I'll be fine, just really bummed about the turn of events.

Time is drawing near and the plans are in place for this weekend’s celebrations of both our 50th Class Reunion and THS’s 150th Anniversary.  So let the fun begin. The weather is forecasted to be cooperating for a great early Fall weekend in Topeka.  Fingers crossed!!!

There are numerous activities for everyone to choose from and we look forward to seeing as many classmates as possible at whatever event they want to attend.

First, up we have a float in the THS Homecoming parade.  Come ride, walk, or just watch.  The parade begins at 2PM Friday afternoon.  Gathering place for participants is on the east side of the school at 1:30PM.

Next up are two choices for gathering with classmates.  Friday evening Class of ’71 has the Press Box at Hummer Park for the THS Homecoming game against Manhattan reserved for classmates.  Mark Anderson and Janie Grubbs will be your hosts there so stop in and see everyone and enjoy the game.  Food and drink are available at the concession stand.

And for those who don’t want to attend the game the rest of us are gathering at Terry’s Bar and Grille on 6th St.  We have the west side room reserved beginning at 6PM.  Come have a burger and beer with everyone.   Good food at not bad prices.  Come join us if you can.

Saturday, begin the day with the 150th anniversary of THS celebration.  From 10am to 2pm the celebration will go on at the school then if you want to move down to Kansas Ave there will be a continued celebration including a car show.  Note: we don’t have specific plans for our class at the 150th celebration.

Last and most important the 50th Reunion (1.0) celebrating the graduation of THS’s 100th class.  US!!!!

Join us at Thompson-Bradbury Alumni Center beginning at 6PM for food, fun, dancing, and conversion.  Sal Cruz will be our DJ.

We will be giving prizes for the winners in selected categories, (hint, be sure to calculate the distance you traveled to get here for the weekend).  As well we will hold a raffle for an autographed greens flag from the 2019 US Open Golf Tournament.  It is a fund raiser for our next reunion, which the class consensus is WE DON’T WAIT 5 YEARS TO HAVE ONE!     Class pictures will be taken at 7PM.

Additionally, we will spend some time remembering our lost classmates.  A Memorial program is planned at 7:30 for those of us who have passed.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as feel you can attend any or all the events this weekend.  We know this has been a difficult time for all.  Remember we will have masks and hand sanitizers available as we will be honoring Washburn’s policies.

Steve,

So sorry to hear this news.  Take care of yourself and hope to see you at the 50th reunion 2.0, whenever we get out of this mess far enough for everyone to feel safe.

Hello everyone, hope to see many this weekend.

On a sad note, Michael "Mick" Lynch passed away on June 5th. He had become a dear friend of me and my son in Wichita. I learned what a great human being this man was.

Steve McCann, so sorry to hear about your breakthrough Covid!  My son also got breakthrough Covid last week after being completely vaccinated last March.  I'm hoping there will be another reunion when Covid isn't so prevalent.  I'm bummed too about missing this event and not getting  to see many classmates.  Take care,

Hi Everyone, my heart is breaking because I did not attend our 50th reunion.  I have looked forward to this for years and had planned to come, but I am just too afraid of COVID-19 even though I am fully vaccinated.  I agonized over my decision and checked airfares and schedules many times.  But, I finally decided that we won't be able to even see each other's faces due to mask wearing (and I am too afraid to take my mask off in public), so if I can't see your face and you can't see mine, we wouldn't even be able to recognize each other!  I had  pneumonia and chronic bronchitis at different times last year and know what breathing problems are like.  I am sorry, really sorry, but I just can't risk it this year.  Maybe we'll have something next year?  Cindy Moore (Gibson now).  Please feel free to communicate with me at mooregirl3@gmail.com

It will be wonderful to meet again in 2 years!  I am planning on going to the THS Gayla on December 4.  It was so great to see everyone that I realized I need to make more of an effort to go to things like this, expecially when two of our classmates are headlined!  The wonderful pictures of the smilling and happy classmates of the parade showed me how important it is to be involved as much as possible.

Oh my, I loved all the pictures..  I guess with such a large graduation class, I was unable to really recognize anyone!  We were unable to attend, but I loved the pictures, especially the ones of the inside of the school.  I could smell those yummy rolls, baking!  Thank you to those that posted pictures.

Happy to see the recent Facebook posts showing news of our 70th Birthday Party, planned for September 23, 2023 at the Topeka Country Club, is getting around.

Hope everyone can make it. The committee is working on finalizing the plans for the event.
Be sure to stay connected here and on the the Facebook page for more updates as they are finalized.

Also, continue to help us by updating and contacting classmates letting them know about our party coming up in the fall.

Looking forward to seeing everyone
