60th Reunion Summary

Friday 18 September

Evening: Meet about 6:30 pm for a casual impromptu gathering at the Topeka Country Club located at 2700 SW Buchanan St. (west of Topeka Blvd on 27th St) in Topeka.  If you’re going to be in town just stop by and meet with classmates you haven’t seen for 10 or more years! There will be no charge unless you wish to purchase drinks at a cash bar. If you would like to eat and there is sufficient interest a mexican buffet  for $25 per person for those who are interested. If you are sure you will attend please let us know.

Saturday 19 September

Morning:: Meet at Highland Park High School at 10 am to take a tour of the High School.

Afternoon: For those who are interested, 1:30 pm there will be  about a 2 - 2 1/2 hour ride around Topeka to see the sites to include: The Great Overland Station and the adjacent All Veterans Memorial, Noto art district, renovated downtown, the exterior of the Capitol, new Docking Office Building, the Brown v Board National Historic Site, Gage Park with its newly expanded Discovery Center, the Wanamaker Corridor, and Washburn University, and other significant points of interest. The trip will stop at various locations so you can visit the site. (Cost is $16 per person per person for those who are interested and we need at least 20 people for the trip.

            Evening: Meet at Topeka Country Club located at 2700 SW Buchanan St. (west of Topeka Blvd on 27th St) in Topeka, from about 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm for an evening of dining on Italian buffet, coffee, ice tea and water, conversation and if you like, dancing to the D.J music. A no-host cash bar will be available. (Cost $35 per person). A class photograph will be taken at 7:30 pm.

Sunday 20 September: Meet at the Shawnee Lake Shelter House #6 about 11:30 am for a picnic. Food will be grilled burgers and dogs with sides and dessert and non-alcoholic drinks. (Cost $15 per person). BYO beer if you wish.

 

We hope you will be able to attend all of the scheduled events, but if not please come to as many as you can. Please complete the appropriate sections of the accompanying reservation form identifying the events you wish to attend and return it to the address provided on the form along with payment for all the events, which have a cost. We need your reservation form and payment returned not later than the 7th of July 2026.

We would like to prepare a souvenir book. We ask that you jot down any information you want to share about yourself and your family, and if possible send it by email to bill.gahnstrom@washburn.edu either as text in the email or as an attached file in MS Word if possible. You may include a picture(s) if you wish. If you cannot send the information by email, please type the information and return it with your response so we can scan it in to a document. The deadline for bio-information or photos for inclusion in the souvenir book is June 1, 2026. If you cannot come to the reunion but wish to have a hard copy souvenir book please complete the form that follows and send it in with $15.

We are still investigating hotel accommodations. The Capitol Plaza Hotel closed and was purchased by the city who is selling it to Endeaver even as I write this. We will provide more information as soon as we have it.

Note: photographs can be purchased at the event for $15 if you prefer.

  1. ____ I wish to contribute to the memorial fund “In Memory” of our deceased classmates. All contributions will be used by the Highland Park High School Alumni Association for either scholarships or to purchase items for direct benefit Highland Park High School. All expenditures will require prior approval by a committee of at least 3 Class of 66 members. The initial committee will be the active members of the 60th Reunion Committee. I have enclosed a check payable to the Highland Park Alumni Association with a memo indicating Class of 66 In Memory Fund. Contributions are tax deductible.
