Michael Mike A. Peterson of Overland Park, KS, 64, passed away suddenly on Wed. Aug. 15th 2012.  Mike was a beloved husband, father, granfather and friend.  He was born Aug. 12, 1948 in Leavenworth, KS to Thure and Frances Peterson.  He was a lifelong Kansas resident.  Mike owned and operated two Kwik Shops in Topeka where he met and married the love of his life, Karen Ann Griggs, also of Topeka.  Mike and Karen celebrated 44 years of marriage this past March.  Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Little Jo, Bobby, Donnie, Tommy and Jimmy and a daughter, Tracy.  Mike is survived by his loving wife Karen, his son, Michael Keith of Blue Springs, MO, his daughters, Becky (Brad) Pepin of Overland Park, KS and Joy O'Brien of Coeur d Alene, ID and six grandchildren, Cole, Cadin and Chase O'Brien, Delaney, Maya and Jonas Pepin.  Mike is also survived by three sisters, Pat Eldred, Margie Fink and Peggy Pierron and many family and friends.  Mike was the heart of his family, neighborhood and friends.  He always had a smile, positive attitude and helping hand for anyone and everyone.  Neighors came to depend on him for front step paper delivery on his morning walks, leaf raking, snow blowing, lawn mowing, and anything else he thought would be helpful.  In fact a Good Neighbor Award was created in his honor by the Neighborhood Association.  Mike was especially proud to share his holiday displays, highlighted by his 14 foot live Christmas tree.  Above all Mike loved his family and helping others.  His passions were his grandchildren, the color RED, gardening, traveling andspending time with close friends, especially his partner in crime, Fred (who beat Mike to heaven) and Kathy Bermudez.  Mike owned Refreshments, a wholesale beverage and service company for over 30 years.  Mike had a legendary work ethic.  Mike was a long time member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he served as an usher.  A rosary will begin at 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 19th with visitation to follow until 7:00 pm.  Public remembrance from 7:00 - 7:30.  A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 20th.  Both services will be at Holy Cross Catholic church, 8311 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, KS 66212. "Please wear a touch of red to the mass to celebrate Mike's life!" I remember Mike and he was such and nice guy and always had a BIG SMILE.  Rest in peace, my fellow classmate.
