ZANDBERGS, Mara It Is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of Mara Zandbergs (nee Sedriks) on October 1, 2016 at the age of 70. Beloved partner of Arnolds Smiltnieks, devoted mother of Aldis (Anandi) and Andrievs (Jessie). Proud and loving vecmate of grandchildren Indra, Aanya, Oskar and Erik. Greatly missed by relatives and friends in Canada, USA and Latvia. Predeceased by her husband Laimonis. Mara was very proud of her Latvian Cultural heritage and actively supported local Latvian community events. She loved to travel and especially valued time spent in her homeland, Latvia. Memorial service will take place on Saturday October 15, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Latvian Ev. Lutheran Church, 18 Victoria Avenue South, Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton Latvian Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

In honour of Mara's birthday (January 24), I'm remembering how much fun we had. Mara really expanded my view of the world. Never even heard of Bob Dylan until she came along. Then we went to his concert in Boston. Something I can still brag about. And I remember helping her with trig homework over the phone. She taught me how to knit, but her stitches were twisted. Good times. Rest in peace, friend.
