Fred Lauver

OZAWKIE - Services were held at 10am Wednesday, Oct 30, 1996 for Frederick W. "Rick" Lauver Jr., 51, Route 1, Ozawkie, who died Saturday, Oct 26, 1996, shortly after arrival at a hospital in Topeks. He had an apparent heart attack.

   He was born Jan 30, 1945, in Phoenix, the son of Frederick and Nadine Bundren Lauver.  He attended Highland Park High School in Topeka, Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo., and the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

   Mr. Lauver received a BA degree in English literature and a Master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas in Lawrence.  He was a special agent for Santa Fe Railway and a commodities borker in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Charlotte N.C.  He was employed by the Stat of Kansas as a social worker since 1984 and currently was a computer systems manager for the State Board of Agriculture.

   He served with the 169th Support Battalion of the 69th Infantry in the Kansas National Guard.  He had been assigned to the 101st Aiorborne Division of the Army and served in Vietnam.  He had received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Badge and Expert Rifle Badge.

   He attended Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka and was a member of Knights of Columbus in Meriden and American Legion Post No. 225 in Ozawkie.

   He was married to Cassie Brudine Aug. 19, 1983.  She survives.

   Other survivors include a stepson, Andrew Perkins, Lawrence; his father Frederick W. Lauver Sr., Topeka; his mother Nadine Nelson, Topeka; and a sister Doris Holinger, Carbondale.

  Burial was at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
