Summer of 1963 I went to boot camp at Parris Island with Steve and Dale Lauver. I have so many memories of talking with Steve on graduation day and later at Camp Geiger. Never forget that our Senior DI, a real hard-bitten Korea vet, gave Steve his personal campaign cover as a gesture the day we left PI. Always were a lot of people who thought well of him. Steve moved to California and when I came out in '65 we hung around a lot. Decent guy, give you the shirt off his back.  Steve had a lot of depth to him, when you talked with him you always felt a little more grown up than in most conversations. He was one of the coolest guys I've ever known, in the sense that he was always confident but never too full of himself. I think Steve was the real deal in about everything he attempted.

Rest in peace, Steve.
