Daniel Joseph Connolly was born on January 23, 1950, Joan Mulready Connolly gave birth to her second son, a beautiful baby boy. The baby's father, Patrick Leo Connoly, and his mother, Joan named their newborn Daniel Joseph Connolly. Daniel was soon baptized into the Catholic faith, beginning a life devoted to Jesus' teachings, to service, and to the love of those less fortunate. As he grew, Daniel developed a strong moral compass. He became a compassionate, honest as the day is long, brave, generous, and honorable man. He often attributed these qualities to his own Mother's devotion to her Church. Dan was a "handsome boy (his mother's words)" who grew into a handsome man with a strong work ethic, a sense of duty to family and country, and an unwavering love of God even as he fought an excruciating battle with esophageal cancer. Dan was also a patriot. His "Lion's Den" was Viet Nam. At age 18, fearing that he would be drafted because he could not afford the textbooks to continue in college, Dan joined the Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Sergeant, sensing that the superior training in the Corps would aid in his chances of survival. The war in Vietnam would haunt Dan for the rest of his life. In May, 2017, Dan travelled on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. accompanied by both of his daughters. This trip gave him some solace and the Welcome Home that he had never gotten as a 19-year old returning to a nation hostile to its veterans. Dan's heart, mind and spirit, however, revolved around his family: wife, Julie, and their twin daughters Keely and Caitlin, and later, his adored granddaughter, Talleulah Faye. Dan gave everything that he had to his family. He was a patient, loving and devoted husband and father who often stood in the background reveling in his girls' accomplishments. He took immense pride in wife Julie's legal career his twins' theatre and vocal performances, Keely's excellent mothering and Cat's soft and gentle spirit. Daniel left this earthly realm on July 14th, 2017. Though he was unable to speak, he said his goodbyes to Caitlin and Keely with his beautiful blue eyes; and he waited for the love of his life, Julie to come rushing back into his hospital room so that he would not leave this earth without seeing her one more time. Dan leaves to mourn and to celebrate him his wife of 31 years, Julie; his twin daughters, Caitlin and Keely (Chris Mayberry); his precious granddaughter, Talleulah "Badger" Mayberry; his siblings, Rick (Lora), Kevin, and Eileen (Mitch), and many Chicago Connolly cousins; and brother-in-law, Richard Euson (Colleen, deceased). Dan fought the Lion, cancer, courageously and with dignity. May he now have his well-deserved rest in Jesus' arms, and may the Bass fishing in heaven be better than even he could hope for. Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita. His urn will be buried in a Gaelic ceremony on Mynish Island, Galway Bay, Ireland.
