M.G. ‘Mike’ Humphries

Michael G. Humphries, 27, 2217 Moundview Drive, died Saturday in a Topeka hospital where he was readmitted June 17.  He had cancer.

He was born August 29, 1950, in Topeka where he spent most of his life.  He was graduated from Highland Park High School in 1968 and attended Orlando Junior College in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Humphries worked at the Topeka Goodyear Plant before he retired last November because of illness.  He had played on the Redmen slow pitch softball team.  He was a member of the Air National Guard.

He was married to Debra K. Bruns June 16, 1973, in Holton.  She survives.  Other survivors include a son, Matthew Craig Humphries at home; father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Jack G. Humphries, Holton; and his mother, Mrs. Corinne C. Grizzard, 2916 S.E. Granger.

Also surviving are five sisters; Mrs. Marsha Singer, Mrs. Susan Hoge, Sandra Humphries, Linda Grizzard and Lori Grizzard; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. McCain, Mr. and Mrs. George Dudney, Mr. and Mrs., O. H. Howard; and Mrs. Lottie Walker.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Holton.  Burial will be in Holton Cemetery.  Mr. Humphries will lie in state at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home in Topeka after 2 p.m. Sunday and at the church in Holton from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday after which the casket will remain closed.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3003 Van Buren, 66611.
