Marlene Kay Burroughs, 47, of Olathe, died Sat., July 26, 1997, at home following a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 9, 1949, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Ronald E. "Gene" and Beulah Mae Grace Scheid. She was baptized in the Eastside Baptist Church in Topeka. She grew up in Topeka and graduated from Highland Park High School there. She married Lawrence O. Fitzgerald in 1968 and was divorced in 1984; she married Lawrence Burroughs, who preceded her in death in 1985. Serving as a clerk in the city of Olathe's water department, she retired in July 1993 due to health reasons. Preceding her in death were her mother and a stepbrother, Randy Colvin. She is survived by her father and his wife, Ramona, Hiawatha; a son, Larry Fitzgerald, Winter Park, Fla.; a daughter, Lisa Fitzgerald, Shawnee; a stepbrother, Rod Colvin, Omaha; and longtime friend and companion, Ed Torrez, of the home. Cremation. A memorial service will be held at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Whiting, Kan., at 11 a.m. on Aug. 4. The family suggests contributions to the Hospice of Greater Kansas City, c/o Framke Casselman Meek Funeral Home, Hiawatha.
