"Kay"... A self proclaimed Femcee, was inspired to write poetry after hearing Maya Angelou perform on a college campus more than 11 years ago. Since then, she has forged her way into the Neo-Hip Hop and Spoken Hip-Hop genre with a quiet force that marries realism and ideology from her life experiences. Although she fell in love with Hip-Hop and was influenced by many of its early artists, the Baltimore native spent eight years serving her country in the U.S. Air Force and used much of her free time enhancing her skills and passion for the pen & rhymes. Being in the military and overseas, she soon developed a signature style which led her to be featured as an artist for Speak Ur peace in May through September 2008. Recently, Kay was the undisputed "Crowd Favorite" at the "Show Me What You Got" Hip Hop Showcase that was sponsored by Steez Promo in September 2008. Kay stole the with her spit fire rhymes and nothing but herself, her Beat Boxer Chuck the Madd Ox, and her microphone. Her set was potent. The Femcee belted out poetry and New York State of Mind rhymes in a tribute based upon the pioneer hip hop artists of the early-mid eighties. She caused utter pandemonium and was the only artist on the Bill to receive an Encore. Looking back at a glance, Kay spearheaded and performed for Hip Hop Relief for Hurricane Katrina September 2005 at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. She also served as a Non Commissioned Officer Rep for Spoken Word Venue for Morale in January 2006 at Al Udeid Air Base in the country of Qatar. She co-wrote and performed in a gospel play "Job" produced by Robert Avery in April 2006 and was the featured spoken word artist for the African-American History Month Ceremony at the military base. Most recently Kay was a featured artist on the Sophomore Spoken Word CD Hydrology by EmSea Water. Hydrology, received "Best Poetry CD of the Year" at the 2007 People's Poetry Awards in Baltimore, MD. Since her honorable discharge from the armed forces, Kay has devoted her talents to pursue writing, music and build her own business. To support herself, she works as a make-up artist, licensed aesthetician and massage therapist and hopes to open her own Spa Café after she carves out a strong name in the hip hop world!
