CLASS OF 1988 – 30 YEAR REUNION
Hello, Class of 1988!!
“Eighty-eight, you got it”…”88 will Devastate”…what were some of our other chants? Folks, I know we still feel 25 (okay, maybe 35), but it is a fact – we graduated High School and began truly turning into the people we are today THIRTY YEARS AGO!! Let’s get together and celebrate where we’ve been, where and who we are, and where and how we will continue to go and grow. Aren’t you ready to scream our class chants loud and proud in the middle of the Caribbean, or docked in Nassau, Bahamas?!!! We were never afraid of stepping out of the “normal” box before, let’s step out and do something epically different again.
The Reunion Committee is proposing a cruise in May 2018 to celebrate this major event. We will keep it short so it will still be like a typical reunion weekend. We will just head in a different direction towards a little Vitamin Sea rather than back to Jones County. We will have more food than anyone can imagine; we will have theme nights (i.e. White Night where everyone wears all white, 80’s night where we dress like we did in HS, etc.); we will have memorable t-shirts (remember the ones we had where everyone’s name formed the numbers “88”}; we will share stories of what we’ve been doing, our families, where we have lived….or nothing at all; we can just chill and fellowship and enjoy life in a beautiful setting.
For those who have never cruised – fear not! We have many classmates who have had wonderful experiences and continue to cruise over and over. We will continue to share key details and tips on our Class of 1988 Facebook Group (if you aren’t a member, become one!). The ships also have thousands of people, bring along whoever you want to bring! We want everyone to have a BLAST!
This note is our first effort to start communicating to find as many of our classmates as possible. Fortunately, we have many more forums than we did 30 years ago (facebook, text, email….all of which are a lot faster and easier to find people than in our snail mail days). We also understand the cost of a cruise will be a bit more than a typical reunion, but the good news is you can issue an initial deposit and make payments at your discretion.
We have reviewed many cruise options, and the Committee would like to propose two cruises from which to choose. We did consider cruises from ports such as Charleston, SC and Jacksonville, FL due to their closer location (to “home” in Jones County), but factors such as cost, length of cruise, and age/size of ships, we have decided the two options on the following page to be our most practical opportunities. Both are Carnival, are 3 nights (cruises leave port at 4pm on the 1st day, and return 8am on the 4th day), are on great ships, go to Nassau Bahamas, and have no idea that the Trojans are coming!
Please forward this document to anyone classmates you know. We are looking to get in touch with all classmates, get feedback, and solidify the cruise by the end of July, 2017. Deciding early will give plenty of time for us to work out all the details and allow everyone to plan accordingly.
Carnival Liberty
4.5 Star ship
Departure Port – Port Canaveral, FL
May 17-20 (Thursday-Sunday)
Itinerary:
- Depart Thursday
- Friday Nassau 12pm-8pm
- Saturday Fun Day at sea
- Sunday return
Starting cost $259 per person (does not include adult beverages or soda, taxes/fees, gratuity) – for an interior lower level room; costs increase based on specific room locations and options
Notes:
- Canaveral typically takes a little more coordination for those who will fly, as the Port is approximately 45 minutes from the airport and typically requires shuttles, etc.
- Opportunity to extend your Reunion to a vacation and spend time in Orlando – Disney, Universal, etc.
- Depending on how you drive, could be 3-4 hours closer than Miami (if you plan to drive)
Carnival Victory

- Monday return
Starting cost $279 per person (does not include adult beverages or soda, taxes/fees, gratuity) – for an interior lower level room; costs increase based on specific room locations and options
Notes:
- For anyone nervous about cruising, has less “on the water” time, as one night stays at port versus at sea

- Opportunity to extend your Reunion to a vacation in Miami – more beach time, South Beach night life, etc.
